RSS ???

Postby mskitty666 » Wed Jan 17, 2007 9:48 pm

I have searched the site and can't find anything on RSS feeds. Is it possible to have this feature? I have found it to be an excellent way to keep up with other forums and sites.

The current release of the forum software doesn't support it, but the new (major upgrade) version they are preparing might. I haven't really looked into it. Great idea though!

Thanks for the info. I hope that you will be able to implement the rss feed. It is a great way to keep up with all the forums not just ones to which you've already subscribed.

The new phpBB version is here and it still doesn't support RSS. They are saying maybe 3.2 will support it.

Maybe there will be a modification to add RSS support once the final release is out the door. (We're running a release candidate at the moment.)

We now have RSS support. It's beta quality, but maybe something is better than nothing.

I am totally clueless as to what RSS is.

Just when I think I know everything about the interwebs...

It stands for Really Simple Syndication.

Take a look at Google Reader

Hmm... interesting...

So, it's kinda like a gatherer of bookmarks?

No, not at all. It continuously brings content from a variety of sources into one place. News, comics, anything that publishes an RSS feed. For example, I'm car hunting, so I've subscribed to a feed on Craigslist that automatically updates whenever someone advertises a car matching the make/model/year I'm looking for.

Google Reader also has some social features, such as the ability to share items with your friends and even comment on them.

The key thing is that the content appears within the RSS reader itself. You don't actually have to visit the websites. So it saves time by bringing everything together in one place and only showing you what's new.
