version of box

How do I know if I have the upgraded version of the box? I bought one online.

I am getting frustrated with it. I have had it 4 days. The rake doesn't go all the way to the bottom. The rake breaks up the pee clumps and leave half or more in the box. I am using Arm and Hammer litter. Any suggestions? The only type of litter I can use is fragrance free. if it says unscented, it usually has a making fragrance and i get a migraine. If there is a better fragrance free litter I can try, please let me know.

If you have metal gears, and not white plastic gears, showing on the motor part, you have the new version. If you have a RUBBER lip on the end of the tray, you have the new version.

There isn't a rake-style box out there that doesn't have SOME problems with leaving clumps behind. None of them have rakes that scrape bottom. I've had several different models, and the SmartScoop is, by far, the best out of all of them (rake-style).

My suggestion on litter is covered in the Litter forum. I use corn-based litters. Actual cat litter brands include The World's Best Cat Litter (TWBCL), or wheat-based ones like SwheatScoop. I'm using chicken feed that very closely resembles TWBCL.

If fragrances are a problem, I can't recommend highly enough TWBCL or, if you can't afford it, the chicken feed. They have NO FRAGRANCE, period. I add litter deodorizer to the chicken feed, just a touch. I have strong allergies to perfumes so this is an issue that is important to me.

Again, using chicken feed as litter is covered in my thread in the litter forum.
