Anyone have experience w/ the ScoopFree litter box?

ScoopFree is an automatic box designed to be used with Fresh Step Crystals instead of regular litter

SF_Lucky is the Inventor/President of ScoopFree. He joined the forum and posted an introduction over in the new ScoopFree section.

Bruce Segal is here too, but his account is not activated yet.

I'm moving this topic to the ScoopFree forum.

Clarification, Apology and Moving Forward

Postby SF_Lucky » Mon Mar 27, 2006 11:12 pm

I understand why some people may be upset someone involved with the testing of Scoop Free posted to these boards without disclosure. Bruce should have disclosed his connection to ScoopFree up front, but he did not and that was wrong. He apologized to Jeff. Once I became aware of his anonymous postings I asked him to stop, too. I also accepted responsibility for his actions and apologized to Jeff behalf of Scoop Free. Despite Jeff’s clarification earlier, some community members may still feel frustration or anger. I also believe these people would feel differently if they had all the facts. Here they are:

1. Bruce was never an officer of Scoop Free or Lucky Litter LLC, nor did he hold a senior position with the Company. Dave is our head of Marketing and has been for several years. Bruce managed an in-home testing program.

2. Bruce disclosed this to Jeff in a private e-mail to him. He specifically told Jeff he used to _manage_ an in-home testing program. I further told Jeff of his personal connections to some of the testers.

3. Scoop Free reached out to consumers, veterinarians and animal shelters for feedback during the testing program. This included working with several groups of cat lovers.

4. Bruce no longer works for Scoop Free or Lucky Litter LLC.

I am not sure how to convey this online or with any credibility, but if you had the opportunity to know Bruce for many years as I have you would know he would never try to fool or deceive anyone. He is a guy with a lot of heart and thought he was helping his friends and the members of your community by passing along the information he did. He is genuinely distraught anyone would think he is a dishonest person. Nonetheless, anonymous postings are in bad form.

So please accept my personal apology to all members of the Litter Box Central community. I have made it clear to my colleagues at Scoop Free that anonymous postings are unacceptable and not to happen again. Further, I can assure you that all testimonials used elsewhere by Scoop Free are taken directly from consumer phone calls and/or written submissions and re-verified with consumers before inclusion on product packaging or our website.

Litter Box Central is a terrific resource for cat lovers, and I look forward to my Scoop Free colleagues becoming valuable contributors to the forum. I sincerely hope they receive a warm welcome and we can all move forward and develop a positive relationship over time. As you get to know us, I hope you will see we are really trying our best to help people and their cats. It seems we have stumbled a bit here so far, but our hearts are in the right place and hopefully this will be recognized in the future.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

I'd like to welcome Alan to the forum, and thank him for taking the time to clear this up. I have corresponded many times with Alan over the last few days, and I am satisfied that these statements are correct. I'd like to highlight one of them now (the emphasis added is my own):

Bruce was never an officer of Scoop Free or Lucky Litter LLC, nor did he hold a senior position with the Company. Dave is our head of Marketing and has been for several years. Bruce managed an in-home testing program.

In regards to cyrusandannabelle's comment about the Animal Alliance newsletter, they published erroneous information with regard to Bruce's role with ScoopFree. I do not know how the factual error was made, but nonetheless, I do not think the ScoopFree guys are trying to decieve us about the role Bruce played.

I'd like to thank those of you who called the BugzGroucho posts to my attention, and I'd also like to thank Bruce for owning up to his affiliation with ScoopFree when confronted about it.

I'm keeping this thread open in case anyone wants to discuss residual concerns with Alan or Bruce; I'm sure I can count on everyone to keep things civil. And as always -- if anyone suspects guerrilla marketing, trolling, etc., please bring it to my attention.

I hope everyone can move on and consider this product on its merits rather than on the drama that's unfolded here over the last few weeks!

Thanks,

Jeff

Ok. So let bygones be bygones.

Now, has anyone else tried this? What are your opinions?

I ordered one. <sigh>

(it is imperative that I have every single litterbox ever made since the dawn of time, so I can add them to my garage of useless crap at some point! I'm positive I must be a record holder of most litterboxes owned by a single person.)

I will report on it after it arrives and is put into action. I think I have more litterboxes than I have chairs in my house.

I was on the verge of buying a Litter Robot, but figured I'd give this one a try. I'll report back once I receive it.

So far, so good

Postby abbeytoo » Thu Apr 06, 2006 1:39 am

the unit arrived today and I promptly set it up with no problem. All 3 cats, even Milo! used it without a hitch. Milo doesn't like the type of litter that it uses so he stood with all 4 feet on the top of the side and hung his butt over into the box. He is used to the balancing trick from using the real toilet. The 2 fat girl cats had no problems moving about in it.

I'll update in a couple of days after I see it in action more. I will also try to get a pic of Milo standing on the edge. It's pretty comical.

As hard as I try, I cannot find anything negative about this thing! I love it, the cats are all using it, it's great!

No poop on the rake, ever. One of my cats is a digger and can scatter enough litter with her digging to fill a sink. This box is deep enough that it's all staying inside the box where it should be. No more stepping on little litter granules.

It works as it is advertised. I give it an A+

I'll be reviewing a ScoopFree unit soon, I hope! The company has sent us one for testing.

Wanna see something amazing? Look under the waste trap. The solid waste looks like its been through a dehydrator. This really is what boils down the second most amazing thing about this product. This and the fact that the crystals absorb the liquid waste so effectively.

It's great, isn't it? I peeked under there after a couple of days just to see what was going on under there. I was amazed that there wasn't more litter under the flap, just a bunch of dried up poops. I scooped them out because all 3 cats were pooping in it and I didn't want anything to make them change their minds about using it and poops in the box is biggie for all 3. Milo is even using it to poo even tho he has his very own upstairs in his private bathroom! So far, I have only seen one footprint in the box upstairs.

I am really surprised that Milo has taken to it. He has always hated that pearly kind of litter. I'm not going to tell him either! lol

NO SMELL!!! Let us jump for joy!

The tray I made out of corrugated plastic is working perfectly. When it gets to be time to toss the litter, I can simply rinse the tray out, if it needs it, fill it with litter and be done with it for a while.

I would also love to find out about the plastic tray

though I don't really mind paying for the refills. It's not that much more than I was paying for litter before and the convenience is worth a little premium to me but I do like the idea of less waste in the landfill. I suppose it's not so bad since the cardboard is biodegradable.

I should introduce myself, since this is my first post. I've been lurking here on and off for awhile, actually a few years, looking for a good automatic box for my two furballs. So far everything else seemed to have too many problems so I just kept scooping, my absolutely least favorite household chore of all time. I picked up the Scoop Free on a whim (since it had a money-back guarantee) and it seemed the crystals would avoid a lot of the problems other automatic boxes have with gunking up. My cats used this from the moment I put it in and I've had no problems. They even share the box since it's clean all the time. The refills last two weeks as advertised and so far I've had no odor and no mess. I was skeptical about it being able to control solid-waste odor since the insert doesn't seal but it does the job. The litter tracks less, too, especially with the added hood. I went from cleaning two big boxes every day, dumping them every couple of weeks, hauling them out to the back yard and hosing them out to just throwing out a cardboard box once in awhile. It's very much worth the money!

My hat's off to the ScoopFree people for an excellent design.
