I'm quite interrested in buying a scoopfree system, but being in Europe prevents me to buy lot of replacing "cartdriges" and your system may be very interesting for me.
But, actually i read this topic and i was wondering why, if those trays are made of plastic should they be changed at all ?

Why emptying and cleaning them shouldn't give them a nearly "forever" usage like a regular litterbox ? Are they melting with the cat urine or is there somehow something i didn't understand in the process ?

You are correct (sort of). There is nothing stoping people from using the liners like a quasi Forever Tray. However, to call them a "Forever Tray substitute" is quite a stretch...if anything - you may be able to nickname them the "For-a-litte-while Trays".

The main issue is durability. It's like the free headphones you used to get on an airplane - there's no reason you couldn't keep those and use those "forever", but seriously - how long do you think they'll last?

The CrystalLiners definitely do not melt with the urine or erode with passing litter, but at 1/10th the thickness of the Forever Tray - it's going to be no contest in favor of the Forever Tray. Also, the liners do not work on their own. They need a support - whether it's a cardboard cartridge or a Forever Tray. The cardboard cartridge is obviously cheaper our of the gate than a Forever Tray, but it's cardboard (including the lid). Within a couple of months (even with liner usage) - something is going to sneak by the liner or soak to the bottom of the cartridge (or lid) which is going to force you to buy another cartridge. Now you've pretty much spent the cost of a Forever Tray (except you can't wash it-and you'll end up buying another one in a matter of months).

My recommendation, go with the liners and see how far you can stretch them using them with a single cardboard cartridge. Once the Forever Tray resurfaces (rumors keep circling so keep your fingers crossed), pick one up (eBay resellers is probably your best bet-since you are over seas) so you don't end up buying a couple of cardboard cartridges a year.

I'd just like to add my two cents in here to Centepete's very informative (as well as kind and supportive) comments. Once the Forever Trays do come back on Amazon (hopefully within the next 60 days max), there is in fact a way you can order them for overseas delivery. I've had more than a few people ask the same question, and there is a way to do it.

Essentially Amazon will ship to U.S. addresses only, however there are services that enable you to ship to their U.S. address, and then for a small fee they will trans-ship to anywhere in the world. (I say a "small fee" -- but honestly I don't know exactly what it is -- however do know that a lot of people have used these).

The CrystalLiners started selling on Amazon and I was happy to see a bunch of Litter Box Central'ites got in on the action (the promo code gave you away ). So far I've gotten 2 reviews, one from Betty (5 Stars-too kind) and some unhappy random from Chicago (2 stars-unhappy with the curly edges and the "Made in China" was too big...I know kinda crazy).

Anyway, I would appreciate it if you had a chance to pick some up from Amazon (or are planning on it), if you could leave some feedback. To you guys, this product is a long time coming, but for random Amazon traffic I'm just some random guy from NJ. Any feedback you can throw on there will help legitimize my presence on there to keep this thing rolling.
