the solution!

Rick... remember how I said you should still sell your trays BUT just rename them Pretty Blue Litterbox, something like that? Well, seriously you could do that, bc I finally think I found a solution to my Holly's " let's poop on the floor next to the box" behavior. I removed the Scroopfree and use ONLY the tray. My Pretty Blue Litterbox. :D Yep, my "full-figured" little girl just wanted more room to do her business in. All of that frustration I went through trying to figure out what she was trying to tell me, and it should have been very obvious to me considering her "big-boned" size. :D

Thankfully she is not a "toss the litter" digger. I thought this little experiment of just using the tray was going to result in litter all over my bathroom floor, but she just paws at the litter after her daily #2. I unfortunately had to change to the "micro" Litter Pearls too. They do not seem to last very long at all, but she really seems to prefer a sandy texture. I refused to get that sandy/clay stuff (p=yew! ), so decided to try this, and she seems to really like it.

Anyone else in here using the micro Litter Pearls? How long do they last for you?

Does anyone make a "stocky cat" automatic litterbox? v Daily scooping again is not fun. :(

You definitely had me laughing at this one! I like that....."pretty blue litterbox".

A quick question -- are you using the hood as well? Because our Stan is also pretty big boned, and we were able to do a mod that works for him -- where I cut off the very top off the hood, so it only has sides now, and he seems to really like that arrangement.

It's going to be hard to find an large version of an auto box -- most of them are around the size of the SF......

I'll keep my eye out for you for something (as I do often see all kinds of stuff coming my way as part of researching ideas).

Have you thought of just going through the list of boxes at LBC and seeing what each one looks like? That might be a good start.....

NO.. we never used the hood. She just needed more room it looks like. It's odd, I've watched her and she walks all around the outside looking for a good spot. Something she really couldn't do in the Scoopfree with the higher walls and a third of the pan covered.

I do not really like the higher maintenence of this set up, but if this keeps her from going on my floor... well, I'm perfectly willing to scoop once daily. She just #2's once a day, and of course with crystals the #1 doesn't need scooping. So I can do this, yes. :)

So Rick... you can sell your pans not only as Pretty Blue, but also Low Walled for "big boned" cats that desire a larger bathroom area! Oh, and perhaps offer the choice of a higher wall one too for the diggers. :)

Using these ideas I'd have a whole new product line!

I'm glad that at least you could still use the tray and that it's working out for you! I've done some more searching, and haven't been able to find the "big bone" version of an auto box. What's weird is that I'm finding so many weird ones that I can't believe a cat can actually get in and out of........one that the cat has to climb up on top of and then back down through a hole, and other that looks like a darned doll house......

argh.

I know this sounds sacrilegious -- but what about Littermaid? Aren't those pretty big? (I don't know, having never owned one myself....)

Don't you have to use a different litter for that litterbox? When I first adopted her she used World's Best in a manual and she liked that one a lot. I didn't like that litter though, it made my bathroom smell like a barn, so I was really pleased to find the scentless crystals.

Yeah.....I think with the LM you need to use the old clay crystals.

Bummer.....

I think I may have found you another option. It's not really an auto box, but supposedly works pretty well and looks larger in the pictures. Called the Purina Breeze. They claim their system makes for significantly less odor:
