I Want to Buy One BUT....

Postby blzz » Sat Oct 24, 2009 11:32 am

I am doing a lot of reading and I am just not sure. I have the cutest cat, sweet little thing she is, BUT WHOA did she just leave that in the litter box?? I don't need to tell you what it does to the hairs inside my nose. Her 'solid waste' is sticky and half the time piled not like laid out. I had the old LitterMate or whatever.... the one that dumped it into disposable trays? The rake got SO nasty on that one.

I know I am gonna have rake issues with this one, how bad? Also she is a side pee-er. Maybe this isn't what I need? Comments?

Lots of comments here.......

First -- the poop issue (also addressed in the food question post someone else asked).

My suggestion is to browse this forum for the various food recommendations as related to solutions for reducing odor -- as well as gooeyness. (Is that a word?) We've had good success with the Wellness line. Bottom line (pun intended) is that what your cat eats will have a huge bearing on odor and consistency........and interestingly enough will also be a big part of your kitty's health.

As far as Auto boxes -- not all boxes work the same for all people and the cats that own us. Litterbox Central was a HUGE help in my decision to get the Scoop Free -- but it may in the end not be the right choice for you and your cat.

On the positive side, what I [i]can[i] say about the SF system is that it has proven to be the quietest and most odor-free systems I've ever used. One suggestion I'd have for you is to ask (or maybe someone reading this will volunteer) opinions from other people who have tried various other systems as well. It's not a surprise that people are going to be biased towards whatever they are using presently -- and most have used at most only one auto system -- so it's important to get opinions form those who have tried other ones.......

As far as the side pee-ing goes. If you ultimately choose the SF, there is a post here with complete instructions on how to remedy the problem very easily and inexpensively, no matter which tray you use. The side pee-er issue is simply a matter of installing a small "guard" so the pee goes into the box and not through the gap. If need be, I'm happy to provide more help/guidance on this.

Good luck in your search!
