New User - Smell Problem - Food Advice

Hello All,

I'm hoping that you guys will be able to give me some advice about the smell problem that I'm having. We just bought the Scoop Free and started using it about 4 days ago. We have one medium sized male cat. The poop smell is horrible. And, my husband is really pressuring me to go back to a regular litter box. Before we used EverClean litter and had no problems at all with smell. But, I HATED cleaning it out. I'm having no other problems with Scoop Free except for the poop smell and I'm hoping a food change will help.

Here's what I currently feed my cat: Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care Wet Food Pouches - 2 a day (for his weight it's recommended that he eat 4 a day, but I give 2 because I also feed him dry food). The dry food brand I use is Wellness Indoor Health (mixed with Nutro Naturla Choice Complete Care Dry food - I did this because we started him on the Wellness a few weeks ago and I didn't want to just change the food suddenly, so I'm slowly phasing out the Nutro Dry).

For those that have no poop odor problems - what do you feed your cat? I truly appreciate any help you can give me.

Oh dear, I see you haven't gotten a response to your question. I just posted one today about purchase reservations I have. I wonder how active this board is? Darn! I really am wanting to buy this, but having second thoughts.

Let me apologize for the slow response! (to both of you!)

This really is an active forum with people who are willing to share experiences -- for some reason I think this may have fallen through the cracks.

First advice -- regarding foods. There are actually a ton of posts already here about food recommendations as related to odors (which is why maybe the response wasn't as quick as it should have been). I think the thinking might have been that this topic as been covered previously in numerous posts. Not an excuse.....just an explanation.

I think the Nutro may be part of your smell issue. We used to use the Purina One line, and had good experience with that (odor wise) but after doing some reading (and consulting with our vet) we shifted to the Wellness line and have been very pleased.

A very good resource is:

Hope this helped! And sorry again for the delay in posting.
