Scoopfree rake problem in reverse

Postby riniboo » Sun Aug 09, 2009 12:09 am

I have been using scoopfree for 1.5 years, and when I first got it I noticed that the rake “leans back” and automatically “flips over” near the sensor area (in middle of the box) when it reverses direction to help ScoopFree remove waste and groom the litter. Now, this does not flip over anymore.

Well, the machine is still working okay without flipping. But I don't think this is normal, anyone experienced this before? Help... is mine broken already??

Your machine is definitely not broken! :D

On the return trip, your rake is actually free to flop in either direction. The folks at SF did some very cool engineering to these units.

For best raking, the bottom edge of the rake should be in front in each direction. In order to get the rake to "flip" on the return trip, the SF engineers designed in a simple feature. After clearing the purple lid in the return direction, you will find that the rake can flip freely back and forth either way.

It is the weight of the crystals (essentially the amount of drag or resistance on the rake itself) that causes the "flip".

So bottom line, it sounds like you may not have enough crystal litter in there. It should be close to between about 4 1/4 and 4.5 lbs. I'd try checking and adding some more crystals and everything should work fine.

Hope this helped!

Actually, while it could be a litter problem, I had this problem as well. No amount of litter would make the rake flip. I ended up calling ScoopFree's customer service line and they shipped me a new box with a return label.

SF's customer service is truly the best, I have to say.

This is good info to know though, as so far in my experience it had always been litter quantity. Good to know -- thank you!
