The New Improved Forever Tray!!

Postby Jack 'n Stans Dad » Sat Dec 13, 2008 6:21 pm

OK, to be honest I usually wince when I read something with a title like this one -- "new and improved". But during the process of making these for folks over the last couple of years I've been tinkering, researching -- whatever you want to call it -- to find ways to make them better. And that's the only way I could think of to describe the new ones.

(BTW -- before going any further, I also want to make sure to let everyone know in advance that I OK'd this posting before doing it. I treasure LBC -- and didn't want to step out of bounds).

My goal was to improve virtually every aspect of this tray, and at the same time find a way to cut the cost. The new one is formed from one piece, for even more improved integrity and strength, made from HIPS (High Impact Poly Styrene) which is both extremely strong and fully recyclable. Although the new trays will be stronger, they will also be nearly a pound lighter, making them easier to handle (for those of us cat owners who may have lifting restrictions). The metal tabs are made from a type of magnetic stainless, to prevent rust, and I've put a ridge in the tray bottom to help reduce sliding of the litter into the poop compartment. I've also put 5 little "feet" underneath to lift the tray slightly, so there's an air gap underneath and also so that the edges are pushed up tighter against the SF to reduce the effects of "side pee-er's".

I've basically tried to address every concern I've heard from people in an effort to make these better. And............they're BLUE!

Here's a photo:

Just go to the website (http://www.foreverlittertrays.com) and click on "The New Version/Purchasing Info", where you'll be able to order. The price is $39.95 plus shipping.

Here's the kicker.

Litterbox Central has been a tremendous resource for all of us, an invaluable forum for cat owners to share information and experiences. Jeff operates this site completely out of his own pocket. If you decide to order a tray, put "Litterbox Central" in the ordering instructions box. For each tray ordered this way, I'm going to donate $5 to Litterbox Central. (Hint: even if you don't order a tray, please consider sending a donation directly to LBC. If you're reading this, then you've undoubtedly benefited from this forum).

Best wishes to all of you for a happy and healthy Holiday season.

Let me tell you guys, this new tray rocks! I didn't think the old tray needed improvement and couldn't figure out how he could improve it. But he did! And it is great! :D

I got the first one (yay me! Thanks Rick!) to try it out and see if there were any issues that needed to be looked at before they went out to the public. There weren't. It is perfect. It's lighter than the previous one and as Rick stated, it is made from one piece which means there will never ever be a leak. Unless you step on it or something.

The flap thing is improved and my fav part is the little ridge added to keep the poop in the area under the flap.

AND BONUS!! they cost less!! :D

Again, you did a fantastic job, Rick. Congrats on a great product that the Scoop Free people totally missed the boat on. Too bad for them.

If you haven't yet switched to a permanent tray from those messy cardboard trays that should be renamed "landfill filler", Go Green and get a Forever Litter Tray today. You will not regret it. I promise!

For the record: I am not in any way associated with the forevertray, except as a user. The above is my opinion of the product.

Rick, your new tray looks slick. I'm saddened that my cats won't accept crystal litter.

Thanks for all your support!

Rick -- I am always tempted to purchase one of these even though I don't have a SF! Your improved model looks great! The SF is a wonderful litter box. Easy to maintain and a lot less scattered litter. Your contribution of the Forever Tray has made it more cost effective as well. Good work!

Thanks for the kind comments (both from you and from Jeff). It means a lot coming from folks that I feel I've come to get to know here at LBC over time, who are regulars here.

The SF really is a well-executed box, well designed -- just needed something different for those wanting an option other than the cardboard disposables.

Thanks.......

I really don't see how anyone can afford to use those cardboard trays. There is no way in the world one would last a month like they claim. Even with only one cat. Maybe if the bottom was coated with something to prevent the wet from soaking thru, it might last a month with one cat. maybe. I doubt it. the forever tray is the only way to fly with that box.

You deserve the kind words, Rick. You have been totally dedicated to developing a litter tray for what is basically a good product for those who prefer to reuse rather than throw away... And I think many people would prefer this option. I hope those who have a SF are aware of the Forever Tray.

Best wishes--

I'm retarded. I thought I was so smart finding this on Amazon... I just posted a new thread. But can't wait to get it! Thanks so much for the ingenuity! Keep up the good work!

These are now available on Amazon! I just ordered a second Scoop Free and 2 of these reusable trays.

I think if I hadn't found the reusable trays I might have given up on the Scoop Free. It seems great, but I have 5 cats and the cost for the "cartidges" would have been obscene :)

Amazon also has pretty good prices on the Scoop Free litter boxes.

I would like to go to this forever tray, the disposal versions do not last an entire week because the waste ridge is too small and a good amount of crystals end up in there, and I end up scooping it into the tray before a week is over. I’m getting one week a box with two cats. My biggest problem is that I am finding it difficult to find the crystal’s locally (our Walmart doesn’t carry them) and buying them online is not effective with the shipping costs.

Any suggestions?

Also – if I go to the forever tray, does anyone have any tricks for emptying the tray easily without a lot of mess (or smell) one of the reasons I went to this box was to minimize scooping/touching/cleaning. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hey DLDLEH- I don't have a ForeverTray yet, I am soon to order one (wanted to make sure kitty would stick with the ScoopFree and that it would work for us.) But it is my understanding that the lid of the waste trap on the ScoopFree is removed easily; I would just take the entire tray outside, remove the waste trap lid, and dump the whole contents into a trash bag or garbage can. Then wipe the tray down, let dry, and re-assemble.

My cat tends to hit the litter box about 2 hours after each meal, so I would do this at a time when she won't be needing to use the box.

As for getting litter- have you tried Target? Target.com offers free shipping on purchases over a certain dollar amount, that might be a good thing for you.
