rake trouble

rake trouble

Postby JENN » Tue May 15, 2007 1:07 am

After my recent cartridge change yesterday, along with a change to Tidy Cat crystals this time (only bc my Walmart does not carry FS and the nearest Petsmart is 60 miles away) my rake is behaving strange. I'm worried bc I just love, love, love this litterbox... did I do something by switching litter? Other ppl use TC, don't they, without rake problems?

Now instead of the rake flipping over right after it comes out of the "doody bin".... it drags itself halfway back THEN flips over for the last few inches. This causes the dragged area to be very thin of crystals and then pile up in that last space after it flips. Has anyone else experienced this? What happened?

Hi Jenn -- I think I experienced this when I was trying out the SF but can't recall what I did about it... :? I don't think its a big deal though. The tidy cat crystals maybe slightly larger than the other SF type and may not pass through the rake as quickly therefore may build up... I know the problem wasn't permanent. You could remove some crystals or.... even them out a bit.... and see what happens. I know using somewhat less crystals worked
better with my cats.... You might also try flipping the rake over yourself at the right point and see what occurs.

I think Spaceshare is probably right. I haven't tried those crystals, but know that when I tried some that were even slightly too large I had problems...........

Actually these crystals are smaller then FS crystals (Could these be new?) and my cat seems to even like them better as well. She jumped right in, began to paw it right away and she now will bury all her doodies. (Definitely helps the odor problem.)

I'm thinking it might be the amount in there. Although the jug of TC is in fact lighter in weight then the bag of FS (3.5 lbs vs. 4.5 lbs.), I think the TC quantity is actually more, Can someone please go measure the amount of FS in a bag for me? I'm curious if they are truly similar?! Thanks! :)

One thing I notice with the white and clear fine TC vs. the blue FS, is the FS was much easier to daily Dustbuster up the little tracking I'd find around the box. This TC is not so easy to see. Not a huge problem though, as I'm in a wheelchair and I'm not the one stepping on them! :D

Jenn -- I think the Tidy Cat crystals I tried were very close in size to the SF crystals and I used less of the Tidy Cat for better results.
