Automatic Litterbox Central

Well I finally got my Forever Tray. I love it! I have had no problems with it and if anything I think the crystals are lasting longer. Regardless I have had to change it out less often which is a plus in my book!

I have read just about all the posts on this website and am about to buy a Scoop Free for my 17 pound orange tabby. I am very interested in the Forever Tray but I am trying to think of the best way to clean it. I know with the catridges you just pull it out and throw it all away and put a new one in. What do you do with the forever tray? How do you clean out the litter? Do you just pull out the tray and dump the litter and completely refill it or do you scoop the litter and just add a little more at a time? I know this may sound stupid but I want to make sure it is worth it before I buy it. Thanks for your help!

I keep my litter, stirring it once per day and empty the poop trap once a week, for 3 or 4 weeks (I have one cat). At that change time I just dump it all in the trash (take a trash bag, slide it over the tray, then dump). Then I take one of those clorox wipes, wipe the tray down, wait a few minute to be sure its dry, then dump in more crystals. Put down the SF top...viola, all finished!

I either buy the Tidy Cat jugs of 3.5 lbs each, or the Mimi bags that are 4 lbs from Wally World. Both are a perfect measured amount. That Forever Tray really cuts the cost down tremendously. I absolutely love this litterbox... I will NEVER return to scooping ever again!

I have two cats and do something very similar. I stir and rake out poops from under the lid about every two or three days, and change every 10 days. (The clear lid makes it easier to look under to rake). I use the Fresh Step Crystals from Walmart ($12.34 for an 8lb. bag) and mix in a bit every once in awhile during the 10 days.

For complete changes, I use the 13 gal. kitchen garbage bags (cheap from Costco) and set it on the floor, with one end of the tray in the bag, then lift up the other end of the tray and slide the used litter into the bag, using a flat scooper to scrape the rest down in. The rest is the same as Jenn -- quick wipe and dry, refill and done.

I just ordered a forever tray from J&SD.

A little pricey (esp. w/ shipping), but I understand that the shipping costs are "real" because of the odd size & no corporate/bulk discount. The difference in cost between that & raw materials should be more than repaid to me in the form of reduced frustration, only having to buy the materials once (I almost always wind up getting something wrong and having to start over), and the cost of more disposable trays needed while I work on the perma-box.

I'm really looking forward to getting it.
