Cord length?

Cord length?

Postby JENN » Thu Feb 22, 2007 7:10 pm

How long is the electric cord you plug in for the SF to work? From the point of where it exits the SF (is it in the back?) to the wall outlet?

I have derided to finally give one of these a try, but need to know if it will reach the available outlet in the room I'll be putting it in.

Can someone please go and measure the cord length for me, and tell me where it exits the box too? Thanks!

Hi Jenn,

I hope the cord length info works for you -- the SF really is the best thing since sliced bread. (OK, maybe not that good, but it's a darned convenient and well-designed litterbox).

I measured the cord from where it plugs into the wall socket to where it plugs in to the SF, and I get 10 feet.

The plug-in on the unit actually isn't at the back, but it is on the back corner. So if you stand looking at the unit from the side where the "lid" is, the plug-in is on the very back bottom of the right hand (long) side.

Hope this helps!

Post here again or drop me a line if I can help with more dimensions.

We have two cats, and the SF works great!

Thanks... that'll work! I want to try it first using the only available outlet in that room, then if Holly takes to it, I'll call an electrician to get another outlet put in just for the SF.

I'm a little worried about changing her to crystals though to be honest. Is there any smell to the crystals at all? She's very sensitive.

That is probably my biggest worry, not the costs of the cartridges like I've been reading most ppl complain about. Heck, if it works and I can get a full month from my one cat, I'll be very happy to buy them!

Hi Jenny,

Glad this helped!

As far as acceptance of the crystals by your kitty goes, what I've read (and experienced) is that the best way to get them used to the new stuff is to scatter a light bit of "used" litter over the top of the crystals. It worked like a charm with my two, and the transition was very quick and easy. The crystals do indeed have the "fresh step" smell, but all the people's cats I know haven't had a problem with it.

As far as the cartridges, I made my own out of PVC, and then made more for friends.........and now it has escalated and I have had them on Ebay and at this point actually have a waiting list for the next batch. There are also several people who have posted plans and materials to build your own -- I think Abbeytoo's is the best example.

If your cat is light on the litterbox, then maybe one cartridge per month will be all you need -- it's hard to tell. If that's the case, there are also some folks who have posted ways to buy larger quantities at once and save some $$.

Just some options.

Best of luck -- I think you'll really like the SF.

Welcome back Rick! Hope you had a good trip and it wasnt toooo snowy.

Jenn: before you plunk down the money for one of these (great) boxes, you might want to buy a bag of the fresh step crystals and fill a regular litter box with it to see if your cat will use it. Some won't even step in it. I have one. Get the bag of just crystals, they also make a combo bag of scoopable stuff with crystals. The scoop free works with just the crystal litter. If your cat takes to the new litter, then you are home free but if you find shes one of the anti crystal cats, you arent out a chunk of change.

I finally ordered it last Thursday, it arrived and was set up yesterday, and her old litterbox went out the door today. Very easy transition.

She's had no problem with using this scoopfree at all, she was actually rather curious about it ... stood inside sniffing around for almost 15 minutes before christening it. If I can get 1 month from one cartridge (she's a petite calico), then that would be just awesome! And to be honest, it will probably be cheaper monthly for me too, bc I had been using WBCL and that's about $17/bag around here. I was going through one bag per month.

The cost really does not concern me very much though, if it works then it is most definately worth it to me. I'm disabled, in a wheelchair now and I know my condition will just become worse in time (its degenerative). I was real worried that I wouldn't be able to care for my best-friend eventually. Now I'm not.

This is a fantastic litterbox!
