REALISTICALLY, how often do you need a new cartridge?

ScoopFree is an automatic box designed to be used with Fresh Step Crystals instead of regular litter

REALISTICALLY, how often do you need a new cartridge?

It says 10-15 days with 2 cats....

I have 2 cats.... realistically, how often do you change the cartridge with 2 cats?

Does it really last 10 days?

Thanks

I have 2 cats, one in renal failure that pees MASSIVE amounts (I mean, a cup at a time many times a day)

I change it every 7 days.

My cat must be a small-volume pee-er. It has now been 26 days and I should probably change it within a few days but it still isn't all that nasty.

Per MadOlCatLady, I am using a mixture of FreshStep crystals and UltraPearls. Before I used only FS (I have only changed it 1x since I got my SF). I don't know if the mixture is better or not than the straight FS, but some of you out there might want to try, especially if you have multiple cats.

I feel incredibly lucky at the amount of time the tray (I am refilling it) lasts. I do scoop/stir once every 7-10 days but that only takes a few minutes.

I have two cats. In the 20 days I tried out the SF, the longest I stretched the crystals was 9/10 days, stirring once a day from about day six on; however, with one of the reusable trays being sold, the stirring might not be as needed.

They have other trays besides reusable trays?? What if you are out of town and can not stir?

er...yeah, the ones they sell for the unit...the disposable ones

Does your cat know you are planning on going out of town? Better check with the cat before you leave.

How long do you plan to be out of town?

:? Well... hmmm.... I am trying out both the LR and the SF hoping that the LR will win the contest. If the LR wins the contest, I think I could be out of town for five days before the drawer would need changing. If I am out of town longer, I will train my son to change the bag in the drawer or if I leave in the little pan I have in there, to dump the pan... Or, we have a great kennel here and the kitties could go visit there while I am gone. They get fresh litter daily there and a great big cat tree to play on!

Multiple litter boxes could be set-up so the kitties have an auto box and several hand scoop boxes... Or, have two auto boxes...

Or just leave the SF as is... the bottom of the litter pan (the reusable ones people are making) will get wet but likely the crystals on top will stay usable for a while (9 to 10 days...). But the thing is, with multiple cats, you still have the poop to contend with... it is being shoved under this flap and only so much is going to fit under the flap...

Get both boxes, try them out, and decide. You can't make a good decision without trying the boxes you are considering with your cats. :) The kitties are the deciding factors...

I can't speak for 2 cats, but with my 4 I empty the poo out at day 3 and do a full change at day 7. I am having trouble with two of my cats using it erratically now though so that figure might be more like 6 days if they were using it more reliably. With 2 I would think you could get 15 out of it if they aren't huge peeers. It also depends on if you remove the poo midway or just want to do it totally disposable with no work.

Dawn :)

No work... what is the longest

Guru can you tell me how your Litter Robot Scoopfree test goes as far as days?

Litter Robot doesnt say anything about 10-15 days...

So If i wanted the box unattended 10 days, wouled that be OK?

In the past I have a littermaid which holds 3 days for 2 cats only.. and I leave 2 regular disposable boxes.. I rather get one real good automatic!

I started using CatGenie with our two cats around December 15th. First cartridge lasted until about January 20th. Just on the second cartridge now, still going strong, and thats a good thing because my replacement cartridges from Petedge have not arrived yet.

So it appears that we're getting a good 30 days or more from each cartridge. So far, anyway.

2cats, you wrote that you started using CatGenie? Did you mean scoopfree or are you using CatGenie? Has anyone used both CatGenie and Scoopfree? I'd like to have a comparison.

I have one cat. I've gone away for 20 days. I had someone come by to give food and water, but the scoopfree just worked its magic without any problems or intervention for the whole time.

The only issue is occasionally my stupid cat tries to attack the rake and jams it, which isn't that big a deal since I can just manually make it go.

I'm pretty happy with it so far- about six months now.

Sorry, I think I need to dial back (or perhaps up) my medication. I think I accidentally posted in the wrong forum.

You could never leave the robot 10-15 days. You would come home to the biggest gag of a mess that you can imagine. The poo piles up in the drawer and if it isnt shaken to re distrubute, it will soon attach itself to the outside of the globe, as it rotates over the piled up poo. THAT, my friend , is NOT something you want to experience. Ever.
