Where to find cheapest cartridges?

ScoopFree is an automatic box designed to be used with Fresh Step Crystals instead of regular litter

So far so good with the Scoop Free

I've owned LitterMaids but I like the Scoop Free better. We'll see how durable it is.

I can't remember the cost off hand, but I had an ongoing discussion with I believe it was Sarah at Scoopfree for quite a bit and she came up with a plan to get the cartridges much cheaper. It was something like if you buy 6 of the 6 box groupings you got them for 12 bucks per. If you bought 12 of the 6 box groupings you got them for 11 bucks per. Also, there was no shipping on them. It totaled out to about 900 bucks and you could do two payments. I remember the general total because my husband screamed "I am not paying 900 bucks for the cats to crap". No idea of long-term cost savings on his part  I never followed through and it was so long ago I really don't remember the specifics other than it totaled out to me changing the box about every week to week and a half and having a supply of boxes for about a year and a half at about 900 dollars. Instead he built me a Plexiglas box and flap for about 15 bucks in materials and the use of a heat gun and wooden form to build it. I just wipe it out when it gets nasty and use the Fresh Step from the local store. The cartridges would be lots less work and about the same in price I think, but I don't think I can talk my husband into that kind of outlay even if it is cheaper in the end.

Bulk Price

Postby Mad, Ol' Cat Lady » Wed Dec 13, 2006 11:28 am

O.k. now that I am done with finals, I called ScoopFree and they said this information is posted here somewhere, but incase it is hard to find I will post it again. First, they said that these prices are for personal use only and not for any other purpose. Second, it may be possible to do two payments if you talk to the billing department. Third, the prices:

12-sixpacks=72 trays at 12.74 per tray total $917 free shipping
6-sixpacks=36 trays at 13.47 per tray total $485 free shipping

Hope this helps

I got a permenant cartridge instead

Postby Jack 'n Stans Dad » Tue Jan 23, 2007 9:42 pm

I think the SF is without a doubt the best box on the market -- but I also got tired of trying to find cartridges for a reasonable price, plus felt bad with the continuous waste of throwing away a whole tray every 10 days or so. (I have two boys who pee a lot).

So I got one of the "forever" refillable cartridges off of Ebay.

LOVE IT!!!

No leaks, and I just use a mix of the Pet Gold crystals with the Fresh Step ones -- saves a lot of $$ compared to buying trays all the time.

Why make up this silly story about buying a tray? YOU are selling them. Take it to the classified section to hawk your wares

Please accept my apology

Postby Jack 'n Stans Dad » Wed Jan 24, 2007 3:05 pm

I'm posting this on all four of the places I screwed up.

In my enthusiasm for this cool item, I did a stupid thing by putting it on here in an inappropriate way. I'm an engineer by background and so sometimes focus on the wrong things -- in this instance the cool tray for the cool SF.

I'm sorry for having done this -- and promise that it won't happen again. I honestly don't know what the heck I was thinking.

I think it was a smart idea to post it like that cause I did a search immediately before reading the next post.

I will be buying two.

BTW- brilliant idea on the clear poop cover. Brilliant.

Thanks for the kind words on the cover -- it just seems to make sense.

One other thing I did was (since I'm older and sometimes the memory isn't what it used to be) I got a dry-erase marker and simply write the date on the lid when I do a total litter change, so that I can better gauge when it's time to change (beyond the obvious of looking at the litter).

The clear lid makes it really easy to just pull up the cover a bit and glance under and occasionally rake out poops.

I made the back hinge a "floating" hinge, so that it could expand up a bit to hold a little extra and not jam the SF if one doesn't rake out occasionally.

I'm not sure I want to be able to see a big pile of poop.

Laughing here........you don't see a big pile of poop. The purple cover makes sure of that.

What it does is allows you to see under the edge of the flap if you want to occasionally rake out poops -- just makes it easier.

Still laughing.....thanks.

I'm not affiliated with Jack 'n Stans Dad, but I just wanted to say I tried one of his boxes and it's working quite well so far. I've had it for a few weeks now. I've got a cat that pees like a racehorse so I figure this things paying for itsself in a couple months. I've been having to change this thing every 7-10 days so cutting my refill cost from $15 to $5 is great. I like the detachable lid solution since it can just stay put when I lift the box off the bottom. Then I just slide out the box part and dump.

JNSD - Thanks for coming clean about the covert marketeering. I'm glad you're willing to be straight with us. Your willingness to fess up was the reason I went and checked out your product.

Thanks for the kind words.

As far as the 'fessing up goes -- I guess I may just be "old school". My mom taught me if you screw up, you admit it and take your licks. I know it's old history by now, but the reality remains that there's no way to rationalize what was a stupid error. Ah well...........I should've used my head first.

All that being said, I'm glad the box is working out for you. I'm pretty proud of that hinge idea. :D

Please keep me posted if you have any problems or suggestions for improvements!
