Purrforma Plus Jumbo Litter Box Review

After a recent acquisition of 2 persian kittens I found the urgent need to find a solution to the copius amount of turds and especially the smell. I live in a 2 bedroom condo and it doesn;t take much to stink the place up.
After reading this forums and all the negative comments about this product, I felt I was taking a risk ordering it. But, I liked the features and the looks and that's what ultimatly drove me to purchase this product.
This unit works great! When I opened the box there was a peice broken. It helps guide the rake as it rises to discard the waste. Though it still works without the part, I still felt the need to call the seller and discuss solutions. The people at PetSafeStore.com were very helpful. They gave me a number to call and the part was sent out right away. If you are looking for a automated litter box, I would not hesitate to reccomend this unit. Please forgive any spelling errors.

Featers that drove me to choose this litter box are:
1) Size
2) Light sensors to disable rake while cat is in the box
3) Air Filter
3) Storage Compartment for extra bags
4) Bags that line waste compartment are easy to throw away
5) Adjustable timer to activate rake 10-15-20 min after cat leaves.
6) Disposable clear plastic formed pan liners pan liners
7) Flexible high grade plasti used on Hood and surrounding shroud.
8) Clear blue hood visor
9) Rug outside unit helps clean the litter off the paws

I keep the unit in the spare bedroom closet, so I plugged a night light into the same extension cord as I plug the appliance into, so the cats are not afraid to use it. When I first got it, I kept one regular litter box in case they were still skeptical of it. So far so good.

Please don't flame me this is only my opinion. Please keep any non productive comments to youself.

No problem - if it works for you and your cats, that is great to know!

Please see the posting "Petmate Performa +" (general discusion). I have had one XL and One Jumbo for a while now and have learned some things that make the box work better. I posted a list there that solves some of the problems you may come acrost and some tips. 8)

My Purrforma Plus Jumbo Litter Box Review

Postby rubbercat » Tue Feb 07, 2006 12:07 pm

We purchased the Purrforma about a month ago and love it so far! Several years ago we purchased the LitterFree. We had it in the master bathroom and had it directly drain into the master plumbing of the toilet (vs draining into the toilet itself) as well as direct plumbing from under the sink for water to cycle in the unit. It was a disaster. The cats were scared of the "action" that occured afterwards (water swirling around, draining noise, air dryer) and eventually refused to use it. Plus, it never "cleaned" like it said it would. It just broke up the pieces of feces into smaller bits leaving them in the box and only dried the top layer of plastic granuals. Our cats eat Spots Stew and it was an every day hassel to dig out undigested peas! Dealing with customer service was a mess as they stated it "takes time, we have never had this problem before, etc". I returned the item (costing me shipping fees for the monster) and eventually got a refund.

Since that incident we have held off on purchasing another electric litterbox. But so far the Purrforma has worked great! On top of the other features listed above, it has a battery back up unit (six 9 volt batteries) in case of electricity failure. This is a great feature in case we travel (although we have kitty sitters), but will keep the unit operating without electricity. The Purrforma is a large unit, but we have three cats and need a large litterbox. We have it in a large walk in closet in the master bath and installed an electric plug in the closet.

I look at it this way - I always keep my bathroom clean and my cats should have the same respect.

Note: On PetSmart's website they have the Purrforma listed for $179 - we went into our local PetSmart and the price was $199. I mentioned the web price and showed the manager a print out of the Purrforma on their website. They honoured the $179 price with no problem.
