Purrforma Litterbox...not worth the money!

Postby Myoutlander » Tue Jul 05, 2005 3:52 pm

I just bought the Purrforma litterbox two weeks ago and have decided to take it back to Petsmart. I have cats that urinate in the back of the box BEHIND the rake (the rake does not go entirely to the back...has a small gap which traps yuck). So I find myself constantly having to fix the problem every single day. Another crappy thing about it is that with this hooded model you have to take the ENTIRE box apart to get to the rake and clean it out.
If you have cats that go to the bathroom in the back of the box, then I do NOT recommend this box for you. If you have a perfect cat that makes neat little piles exactly in the center of the box, then this might work for you.
On the plus side I do have to say it's much quieter than the Littermaid I used to have...but just take heed to the problems that I'm having before you make a decision.

We have the same problem with the Littermaid. I took to putting a wide piece of masking tape all the way across the pan an inch or two from the back, effectively shortening the available portion of the box. Not sure if the design of the Purrforma would allow that, but it was a mediocre fix (temporary at best however)

i have both in my basement. both quit working after a week. had the same problem with pee/poo ending up behind the rake. very expensive paperweights IMO. after two years of manual cleaning, i'm now considering a litterbot. considering that between 1 littermaid and 1 purrthingie i already paid for one litter robot, i wish i'd heard about it sooner. i read all the awful reviews but kept hoping i'd luck out and be one of the happy owners. no such luck!

This problem seems to happen with the smaller XL model not the larger jumbo. I have one of each size - Automated litter boxes still need to be checked each day. All an automated box does for you is scoop the litter for a more sanitary cat box.

I agree. When my littermaid clogs up or smells because you can't clean the mechanism well, I pull out the Purrforma. My 4 kitties make a royal mess and I find myslef spending lots of time pulling it totally apart each day to clean it. It does clean well, but when I tried showing the routine to the catsitter, she asked if we couldn't just use a plain box with that pine litter instead. Lol! I'm looking for an alternative box. :(
