Petmate Purrforma +

Has anyone recently tried this litter box? I went to Petco today to check one out, because I had seen them on their website yesterday....but they didn't have them. The manager said they were removed from all Petco's because they were recalled, and he thought maybe the reason they were on their website was perhaps they had fixed whatever problem the problem was. Anyone know what the problem was?
I was wondering how they compare to the LM 900? I'm thinking about returning it to Petsmart just because of how loud it is, and how flimsy and creeky the waste bin lid is when my cat steps on it.
Is the Purrforma box quieter, and more sturdy than the LM? How about performance? The LM seems to work pretty good, it's just thoose few things i'm concerned with.
Thanks for any info

There are quite a few posts about this box on the forum...none of them good. You might want to do a search.

I did a search......and all of the threads I found were from August, September time frame. Thats why I asked in this thread if anyone has RECENTLY tried it :D
Plus all the threads I found, the biggest complaint discussed was the sensors not working....perhaps this is why it was recalled?

I emailed Petmate the other day about their "recall", and here is what the rep. responded back with......

"Thank you for your inquiry concerning our new Purrforma litter box. The Purrforma Litter box was not recalled by Petmate, distributors such as Petco and Petsmart stores decided to remove the product from their shelves because of returned units with defects.
Although, we are in the process at this time of testing this particular unit for maximum performance revisions, and a time frame on exactly when the testing will be complete and new versions released onto the market are uncertain at this time.
We are upgrading the power of the motor on the units
Changing the sensors from 15-20 seconds to 5 second cycles
Making the gears quieter
Making hoods with ABS resin material
Putting the teeth on the rake closer together
Adding a black litter level for better vision
Repositioning malfunctioning light for better vision
And many more suggestions are being taken into consideration.
I hope that this answers your questions?
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you,
Marie Birdo, CSR"

Purrforma new model recognition

Postby santjers » Fri Mar 25, 2005 11:03 pm

Hello. I am interested in the Purrforma Plus, but only if it is the newly re-engineered version. I contacted PetMate, and here is their reply:

To answer your question on how to

determine which Purrforma is the new

one, look on the outer box it comes in.

On the outer box it comes in, there will

be a sticker (not certain where) that will

have REV (for revision) the letter (D)

followed by zeros. You might start by

looking near the bar code. Rev D 0000

If there is a letter (B), don't buy that one.

That would be the older unit. But all of

the latest units will have the sticker with a

D.

Thank you

Cheers

I have had one XL+ and Jumbo+ for about four months

The design of the Performa is much more sanitary than the Litermate box.
The Performa Plus litter box has a steep learning curve to get it to work properly. If you have not purchased one yet then I recomend the Jumbo size over the XL. My female cat seems to spray the back wall of the smaller XL which clumps the litter behind the rake and causes it to jam. The following is a list of tips and tricks which solve some of the problems I have had with the Performa boxes

- Box must be on flat surface or it will jam - carpet or floor.
- Use mild cleaners or permanent spots will appear on plastic.
- Tape the seam between waste container and liter liner with scotch tape - This prevents waste from getting under liter liner and jamming unit.
- Litter liner must be lined up correctly or unit will jam - Use guide holes or tabs to align liner - XL=tabs and Jumbo=guide holes.
- Use only premium clumping litter.
- Rake timer must be set to 15 or 20 minutes for proper clumping.
- Always keep litter level to max by adding litter regularly.
- Use dry enzyme (ex. Natures Miracle) to litter to keep urine smell under control - Litter is changed every 30 days.
- Waste bags can be reused - save some money.
1 Take top off waste container top.
2 Remove waste container and dump contents into trash by turning container vertical and shake it gently.
3 Replace waste container and the replace waste container top. Dont forget to retape the seam.
-When the black plastic rollers on the rake get dry or caked with litter the rake may hang up on the return rake. Clean black plastic rollers and use a little white lithuim grease (paste Form) on the rollers to keep them lubed. Clean any debris from tracks and make sure velcro fasteners on litter liner are attached properly.
-You must use a litter liner and replace or wash it every 30 days - If you use it for more than two months you may be asking for trouble.

I hope this helps the rest of you automated litter folks out :D
