crystal litter in your Rurrforma

I try it
After reading about the scoopfree, I try putting crystals in my Petmate Purrforma plus, it worked out very nice. No more clumping behind the rake, no more litter sticking to the rake, no more clumping litter mess in the bottom of the pan. I just change the crystals about once a mouth, like it said to on the bag.
Yes, A little more work then the scoopfree with its replaceable pans, but then I did not have to buy a new unit.
I did find the smaller the crystals the better. The two that worked best was the scoopaway crystals in the bag (not the clumping with crystals), or the refills for the scoopfree, yes it did work best. I'm using the bag as it's working fine and the price is better.
Most of the other brands the crystals were too large for the rake, and dosn't control the order as well.
I hope this helps. :)

so the tinier the crystal, the better?

has anyone seen a difference between the smooth round pearls versions of crystals, and the angular, more granular versions?

i haven't tried either yet (my purrforma is being shipped), but i would think that the smoother round pearls would have less resistance to the rake.

i used ver 1.0 of littermaid 12-13 years ago, and wasn't very pleased, but
i'm hoping that a decade of tinkering has improved all the various products.

Yes the smaller the better, never tryed the pearls. They dont have them in my small town. Just make sure whatever you get are the smallest they can be. The last thing you want to be doing is cleaning the rake.

It's 2009 and the Purrforma supplies are gone.
We have a dozen cats and they loved the urrforma. We used Markall crystalls available at Walmart. Cheap and effective. We don't use litter bags, they are a nusiance. Just dumpthe cdontents of the catch box the trash and wipe down the box with ammonia/water.
We don't use a liner either. Just stir the litter several times a day tokeep the urine from puddling in the grooves.
