Why do the turds break up?

The Simply Clean sifts litter slowly and continuously. Talk about it here.

Why do the turds break up?

Postby tjjones270 » Sun Apr 13, 2008 3:45 pm

We have had our Simply Clean for a couple weeks now. My wife and I are fairly happy with it. It's very quiet and my 4 cats accepted it very easily as compared to our Litter Robot.

My concern is the the many, many small pieces of turds that always seem to be present. I find I have to scoop those manually every few days. Is the conveyor breaking up larger pieces and creating the smaller ones? Is it the type of ltter we're using (Tidy Cat clumping litter)?

We bought the Simply Clean to do away with having to scoop the litter ourselves. I'd appreciate any suggestions to improve it's performance.

I still like the Litter Robot best. Let's face it, you just can't beat gravity for reliability. But, since some of my cats won't use the Litter Robot, I hope that the Simply Clean will run a close second.

I have the same problem, using World's Best Cat Litter Extra Strength. Not sure what to do about it.

I have to say I'm really disappointed in this product. I read all the postings, including the link from the response above, before I purchased it. Although it absolutely takes care of urine clumps wonderfully, the tiny pieces of cat poo that pretty much line the top of the box continuously are awful. I also have the terrible clicking/grinding noise.

I have a timer, and I've tried various timing settings to see if that makes a difference with the tiny poo pieces, but no luck. I haven't taken the thing apart to see if putting graphite powder as described in the above-linked thread will stop the clicking noise, but frankly, I'm not sure I'm keeping this if the tiny turd problem can't be fixed.

Any ideas? Other than this issue, this litter box would work fine for my two kitties, but I'm not sure I can get past this! :(

One suggestion to get the little pieces up the belt was to pour a line of water down to create a large clump that would helpfully help those pieces up. Did you try that?
