Of course, in my case, half the time when I get home, the dog just looks up from where he's lying on the couch, but one of the cats meets me at the door!

Same story here. My three purry tails always meet me at the front door However, I used to have a dog who preferred lying on the sofa more than meeting his humans coming home

My favorite difference between cats and dogs:

If you point at something, the dog looks where you point, the cat just looks at your finger.
