Suitable for Kittens?

Omega Paw has an inexpensive, manually-operated litter box that uses gravity to collect waste in a tray.

Suitable for Kittens?

Hi, I am getting an 8-week old kitten, and wonder whether the Omega Paw will be suitable? Thanks.

I don't see why not, unless you're worried about the clumping litter-ingestion possibility. If your vet thinks that clumping litter is ok, then there isn't any reason that the Omega Paws wouldn't work.

Hope that helps,

I was wondering the same thing. I bought a large and it seems like the hole will be too high for the kitten to jump into. I haven't gotten him from the breeded yet, but when I do, he'll be about 10-11 weeks old. Is that big enough to make it in? Or will he get confused and just start peeing and pooing on the carpet? I'm a little bit worried. Has anyone else had problems with this? Thanks!

Cats are SMART critters and I don't think there is any reason that a kitten would not be able to get into an Omega Paws unit. The last baby we adopted has a useless (as in paralyzed) back paw and he was using one of these units the day we brought him home from the shelter (was under 5 weeks at the time.) As in any litter box, once you show a kitten or a cat the litter box (my method is to just rub their paws in the litter), they seem to "know" that is what they SHOULD use. Yes, there are exceptions, but in the 17 we currently have, have not had that experience with any of them. (I had one gal that, at about age 10, decided she liked the floor next to the box better, and was medically OK, so that was not the reason that we could find. She was an indoor / outdoor cat, and when she was allowed out when she wanted (as signaled by her meowing) life was grand, including using the box properly.)

PS: We have 6 of the large Omega units, plus a few more of regular old boxes that we are phasing out.

Hi! To be honest I don't think that will be warm enough. You have to think that it’s going to get pretty cold in a garage, especially if it’s cold outside. The momma cat isn't going to be with them 24/7 either, granted she will be there most of the time. If you can help it, please take them somewhere warmer indoors. Think of them as little babies, because that’s exactly what they are, little babies! they are going to be all huddled up trying to keep warm anyway, it’s not going to help if they are actually really so cold they're trying to keep warm as well as feed. It sounds like it’s your first litter? I think it’s always best to keep an eye on them when they're so young; they always manage to get themselves in trouble somehow. If you can keep them in some corner of your house, with a litter box for your cat, or she could go outside, I think that would be the best option, then you know they're not freezing to death outside, ( I mean what harm can it do) they are babies after all! They don't have a say about their environment but you do . . . just try and do the best you can.
