Best litter for LitterSweep Ultra?

Postby meowzas » Sat Jul 16, 2005 8:28 am

Hi all,

I recently purchased a LitterSweep and overall have been very pleased with it.

However, I have come to realize that my choice of litter is just not working out for it. I am using Pa-Purr Scoop, and while it claims to be a premium clumping litter, it just doesn't hold up to the motion of the "gravitron", and as a result, no "clumps" make it to the recepticle.

I have read a bunch of posts on here where people complain about the LitterSweep breaking up the clumps, but has anyone found any litter that works reasonably well? I am interested in a natural, biodegradable litter that will do the job.

Has anyone tried Worlds Best Cat Litter with it? I am thinking about going that route next, but when I used this several years ago in a regular litter box, I seem to remember the litter sticking very hard to the bottom of the pan and don't want to have to deal with that every time I clean the pan. :)

Thanks in advance for any info!

I have the LitterSweep as well, but clump-breakage is definitely an issue. Every couple of days when I go to empty the recepticle, I'll usually spend a few seconds scooping. I've tried WBCL with it, and found that it has a tendency to break.... quite a bit, and as a result have switched over to a clay litter (Everfresh) - hoping that it'll clump harder. This is my first week with the clay, so not idea how well it's going to go. I'll post an update sometime.

Thanks, naruchan.

That's disappointing news about the WBCL. When you used it, did *any* of the clumps make it to the recepticle? I think that would be an improvement over what I'm experiencing now, but still not ideal. Please let us know how the Everfresh goes! :)

Most clumps did make it into the receptacle with WBCL, but enough of it broke into smaller pieces to necessitate litter replacement within 2 wks. But then again, I have two cats :) . The Everfresh is actually doing an amazing job at controlling odor, and it clumps really hard. The issue I've encountered with Everfresh though is that large clumps have a tendency to stick to the bottom of the pan, requiring them to be scraped out.

I think I might give up on trying to find the perfect litter for now, *sigh*

We use the WBCL in our Littersweep. We found that other clumping litters would get stuck to the bottom, but the WBCL cleans our easily. It doesn leave some small clumps behind, but definately gets our the big ones. My husband take it outside and takes it apart and washes everything out with the hose since the litter is more enviro-friendly.

Thanks, sage. I just tried the WBCL multi-cat formula for a couple of weeks, and it worked a bit better than the Pa-Purr stuff. Clumps were making it to the recepticle, though some still broke apart and were left in the pan.

I was really disappointed with WBCL's odor control, tho. Whereas I got a strong urine smells with the Pa-Purr (cuz it all stayed in the pan), it seemed that the WBCL did not handle fecal smells very well. Hrrm. Granted, I was kind of busy with moving, so I was not doing emptying the recepticle as often as I would have liked to. However, it seemed to smell bad from the time I first put a fresh pan-full of the stuff in. Anyone else have that problem? Maybe the bag I got was made from rotten corn. :)

katgrl82, I also found that the WBCL was easy to clean up. I didn't have any probs with it sticking to the bottom of the pan. That is definitely a plus.

For now, my LitterSweep is on hiatus (in storage) due to space constraints in our temporary living arrangement. I am using a small old-school litter pan with Tidy Cats' Small Spaces formula. It clumps pretty well and is easy to use, but I am a bit wary of the super-chemical smell/"fragrance" and lack of eco-friendliness. I bet it would do pretty well in the LitterSweep, tho. Anyone used the two together?

Why not crystals or pearls?

Postby chrismcg » Wed Sep 14, 2005 11:22 pm

Does anyone know why the instructions for the Littersweep & others say don't use anything other than clumping litter? Seems to me crystals or pearls would work great -- they absorb the liquid, and the mechanism could then just deal with the solid waste.

Best litter for LitterSweep

Postby Ariel3561 » Fri Nov 10, 2006 12:50 am

I've been impressed with the Pet Gold litter available at Petco. It clumps hard, isn't too dusty and you can refill the plastic jugs at the store. I've used it in my Littersweep and the clumps stay solid.
