LM and the World's Best Cat Litter

Postby jclement30 » Wed Mar 10, 2004 6:54 am

I searched the entire LM section for this and did not find it, thus the new topic.

Has anyone tried the World's Best Cat Litter in a LM? Based on it's clumping ability, I would think it would work.

I went through 2 littermaids on clay litter. But I haven't had to replace a LM since I switched. I've been using the same device now for over 2 years with the World's Best Cat Litter. I won't go back.

Thanks for the info. I have Litter Robots and am thinking of adding some Littermaids. I do use WBCL but am concerned about clumping litter because I remember the troubles I used to have with Littermaid. What model are you using?

I too use Worlds Best with Littermaid. I have the Mega...not the new one with a metal rake. I have the new one with metal rake in the box in case the old one gives out. I've been using WB and the current Littermaid for about 2 yrs now without a problem. The only minor problem is that the Littermaid seems to scoop a fair amount of litter into the well...and leave behind the small stuff. But I still don't seem to use a lot of litter. I think the secret is not to overfill the box.
I went through 3 Littermaids in 3 yrs with clay litter. If anyone has a better recommendation for litter out there...I'm all ears!

Hi I'm new to this mailing list but have been studying it pre and post purchase for hints. Perhaps someone knows a cat litter that will clump #1 quickly enough to prevent it breaking apart in less than the 10 minutes before the LM cycles?
I have an LM900 Mega (old style) with no severe complaints except this one.

I currently use WBCL standard kind (Green bag) not the multiple cats one (Blue bag) because fuzzy loves it, it doesn't smell, and it is easy to clean the scatter. After the LM cycles, areas of partially-clumped #1 are left near the receptacle and have to be cleaned by hand. Also lots of slivers of clumped litter remain in the box as the #1 breaks up when it passes. What is the fastest/strongest clumping litter? Would the multiple cats WBCL be better?

Someone suggested a fan directed at the LM would help but seems like that would also help spread smells and poor fuzzy has enough to contend with when he goes it might just put him over the edge (literally!)

Thanks,
Fuzzys Dad

I've tried World's Best litter, but the clumps came apart and the rake could not pick them up. Didn't work too well. Right now I'm trying out Nature's Miracle litter.

I currently use "Scoop Away" and it seems to work just fine.

YMMV, but I used clay litter for about two years in my littermaid. Tidy Cat Small Spaces to be exact and it worked, well, as usual. Problems were clumps sticking to the rake, clumps breaking apart, and the bin filling rather quickly (two cats).

But a big problem was, because clay litter is very heavy, sometimes the motor would not be strong enough to get thru a pile of it. Many a night I'd be in bed and I'd hear the Littermaid start, then struggle, and I'd think, "Oh please please make it thru!". Often it wouldn't. Back and forth it'd go, ten times and stop, and shut down till I cleared it. Or I'd come home to a stinky apartment because it got stuck right after I left for work 8 hours earlier! Even so I still felt it was more convenient than scooping by hand. And cleaner for my kitties.

Anyway, after reading very conflicting reviews about WBCL I decided to give it a try. What a difference!! Like night & day!! Clay just clumps too slowly. Consequently the clumps were always the size of my fist! They'd break apart and/or fill the bin right up or, like I said, jam the rake. Even though the clumps of WBCL can sometimes be a little 'gooey' they don't stick in the rake, they never cause a jam, they're always small in size, and they don't come apart before getting dumped. No problem with odor AND there is absolutely no dust!

Like I said YMMV, there are a lot of variables (the biggest I thnk being the makeup of your cat's, ahem, leavings). But for me WBCL was a revelation! Definitely try it at least.

BTW I have an original LM900 Mega modified with a silicon mat screwed to the bottom (which also works really well!) and I use WBCL Extra Strength. I also keep the litter in a sealed container because, being corn, it can supposedly attract insects and/or vermin (mice).
