What Litter Are You Using?

Postby littoki » Sun Aug 16, 2009 11:41 am

What litter is everyone using in their LitterMaid these days? I've been using The Worlds Best Litter -- advanced, multiple cat formula. But lately I haven't been that thrilled with the odor control. I'm thinking of trying the new Arm & Hammer that's being advertised with some kind of extra odor control. What are you guys using in your LitterMaid these days?

Arm and Hammer is a bad idea. It stops the rake cold even when the cat hasnot used it. I am looking for something better right now. I am on my third Littermaid and this last one is the biggest bucket of excrement I have ever seen.

Thanks for the info! I've been using the Fresh Step Scoop (multiple cat formula) and am pretty darn happy with it. Do you have the new LM or the old model? I bought an old model (it's either a 700 or 900) and I've had no problems with it at all.

I have seven cats and had three littermaids. I found that Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra worked the best. It is low dust, clumps well, and is relatively inexpensive. For my three litterboxes, and seven cats, I would use two fourty pound bags that would fill up the three boxes and have enough left over for refills for about three to four weeks. I paid $12.95 a bag for them from my pet store. Due to medical issues, I have just had to switch from littermaid to cat genie, but I never had a problem with my littermaids and if it wasn't for my health issues, I would probably still be using the littermaids.

Thanks for posting this. I've never heard of that brand, but I will see if they have it at Petco.

I was just checking to see if you were able to find the Precious Cat Ultra. If you can't find it at Petco, you can search it online and see where you can get it. I know that I had to ask my local pet store to special order it for me. It was cheaper to have my local pet store order it for me than to have to pay shipping when ordering it online. If you can find Cat Attract, it is mostly the same litter, and same manufacturer. However, I went through a bag of cat attract in about a week, and it costs twice a much as Precious cat. Cat Attact has bigger granules and is a bit more dusty than Precious Cat. I know what you mean about the World's Best. It is good for a few days, but then the pneomonia smell is horrible. I just got switched over from my littermaids to cat genie, and now wouldn't you know it, I just found out that my local pet store is now carrying the Precious Cat Ultra all of the time now.

For what it's worth, I've owned three littermaids since 2002. I've only ever used Arm and Hammer and have experienced no such stoppage. The exception to this rule is when all three cats manage to use it or when it's way overfilled.
