Litterworks or Litter Robot?

Postby universe102 » Fri Jul 31, 2009 2:00 am

Which should I get the Litterworks system or the Litter Robot. I have a very cautious male cat and a friendly female cat. I have been looking at posts on here for some time and I just can't decide between the two. :D

My vote goes to the LitterWorks system. We absolutely love it! We have the LW cabinet with the LitterMaid set up in a closet and it is just so easy for us. We just top off the litter every couple of days, and often don't change bags for about a week (and we have three cats). Easy peasy.

I had a Litter Robot in the past, and it didn't work out for me. Now I realize I had one of the earliest models, and it has surely improved since then. But my biggest problem with the LR was that, when it would turn around, poop would come flying out! I'd come home to a smelly apartment with poop sitting around outside the Litter Robot. I was constantly having to deal with that thing.

With the LitterWorks system, there is very little maintenance on my part. I love it. :-)

Yes but after I posted this last night I was noticing quite few complaints about the littermaid mega elite which is used with the litterworks cabinet. Alot of people were saying that the newer models are really awful because they are weaker and the don't scoop out the clumps.

You can use either. My LitterWorks is the the one that works with the older models. When you look at the combo packages, you will see that they have one of each. I actually got the one that comes with a LM700 (or is it 900?) because that one is a little smaller and fits into my closet better. So far I've had no problems with the LM.

I had a Littermaid model I bought in '99 that lasted until 2007. The Elite model I bought in 2007 is already broken and seemed to jam all the time. It does appear they used a weaker motor. I just bought a LR so hope that works out. It was costly though.

I don't know if this is the most appropriate thing to be saying here since I work for LitterWorks, BUT.... whenever I have the opportunity to talk to a customer over the phone or over email, I always mention the merits of the LM900 (the beige old design) OVER the Mega Elite Models....

For my dollar, I think that the original LM900 is the more reliable model. Although the LM900 doesn't have allot of the same whiz bang features as the Mega Elites ... like an ionic air cleaning doohicky, and a blinking vcr timer clock ;) I think the LitterWorks Cabinet more than makes up for the ionic air cleaner. Besides, if a timer is all that important, one could just get an Appliance Timer that we all used to use when we went on vacation for super cheap.

One of the arguments I hear about the LitterMaid Mega Elites is that they have a larger litter area... I think that this is a little misleading... CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, but I think that the extra area is added by virtue of the Mega Elites having a convex bottom. Yes, this would add a few square inches, but if the LitterMaid is working correctly, the extra depth shouldn't really be all that helpful!

We also have been working with the Litter-Robot folks lately! We really like their system! Again: IMHO, I think the Litter-Robot is very reliable for sure! I like that about it! I think that it's a great choice, BUT the waste storage area is smaller than with a LitterWorks System BUT it's larger than a LitterMaid system. One big positive of the LitterRobot is that you don't need to buy further supplies for it, you can just use a shopping bag! How awesome is that? Really awesome!

Anyways, that's my little ol' 2¢ on this matter!
