What is the cheapest way to make a litterworks cabinet?

Postby graciblade » Sun Apr 15, 2007 12:49 pm

There is no way I can afford what they want and figured I'm handy. So......... Does anyone have specific instructions anywhere? I also have a question about using a clothes hanger on the rake? I have heard that people do this because their cats pee on the rake and then it gets clumpy. This is exactly what my 2 beauty's like to do. I just can't grasp how this works so if anyone has pictures of this I would love to see them. Thanks so much you guys. This website rocks!

I made my own cabinet - send me a PM if you still need some basic instructions/plans.

I found a low stereo cabinet at a thrift store that was 18" H x 18" D x 34" L. It has two sliding doors like the litterworks cabinet. I made the chute out of plastic and super glue so it sticks just below the top of the stereo cabinet. Then I got a small trash can (also at thrift store) that fits under the chute with a trash bag in it. I have added a strip of foam around the top of the trash can to press the bag against the underside of the top of the cabinet. Make sense? Also put a strip of foan (weather seal for doors from Lowes) around the LM lid. Then I use WBCL to the full mark and just keep adding when I need to. Works great and it only cost me $18.00

Hi! I know this is a little late to be posting this on this ancient thread, but maybe some people will find it useful still:

LitterWorks maintains a listing of assembly instructions on not only their cabinets, but their DIY kits and other LitterMaids and such. Maybe some of the information you are after can be gleaned from those? They are all PDF files, so make sure your Adobe stuff is all up to date....

LitterWorks Document Area: https://litterworks.com/categories/4_16e032bca38adf38ca6e8fda9a20de8d

Additionally LitterWorks offers a DIY Kit (do it yourself) that contains everything BUT the cabinet:

OR

There is a replacement chute all by it's lonesome... wonder what that could be handy for?
LitterWorks Replacement Chute: https://litterworks.com/Accessories-Supplies/LitterWorks-Replacement-Chute

I don't want anyone to give me a hard time about posting this though. Although you might have found these all on your own, i think that at least having the chute would help your litter box from looking too crazy, with the foam and super glue and what-not! (I'm talking to you morris....)

I think if my boss knew I posted this, he might be mad.

Litterworks,
Thanks for posting those links. I emailed your company about a year ago asking to buy just the chute and received no answer.

I just purchased a chute and plan on building a nice cabinet of my own.

Thanks again

No problem.

Selling the chute is a new thing for us. Really it's supposed to be a replacement for if the old chute gets damaged or something.

But my thinking was that I see all kinds of DIY things in here, and the real crucial thing that is missing is the chute part. I think the old feeling on it was that this was our part and selling it alone would maybe cannibalize sales. My feeling is that those looking for a chute wouldn't buy a full system anyways, so why not put a modest price on it and sell it. Better a small sale then no sale at all!

I don't really tell anyone outside of this forum about it though and it is pretty buried.

I hope you have success building your system! Let me know how it goes!

Daniel,

Thanks for getting them to allow the sale of the chutes by them selves. I work in plastic vaccu-forming and was contemplating making my own form to make a chute, but I have just been too busy. The price of the chute makes it much more sensible to buy it from Litterworks directly.

I am planning on using an Ikea cabinet for my home brew Litterworks cabinet.
