Bit disappointed to have a $300 cat box that now relies on whether I can keep a cheap plastic bottle with screw cap in tact. I did manage to get the lid off and I will try the suggestions to use Roccal-D. I wasn't really impressed with their cleaning solution anyway as it seemed to get less and less effective in dealing with the smell over time.

I assume that the company is gone which is a pity since they had a decent product. Our mian problem is that our old Coon Fat Mama Cat needs something more that just a plain litter box (w/out going into too much odorous details here). What is your experience with litter maid.

Actually, the company is not gone - just reorganizing, according to my authoritative source. Solution bottles should become available on the US market in the next 30 days at maximum, and the unit itself will be back on the market in an improved form hopefully within a year or less.

Please remember that anything you put in the box to clean it will wind on up your cats paws, and from there it will end up in his mouth. Running the unit more often cuts down on the smell, as does an occasional application of Dawn dishwashing liquid at the beginning of a cycle.

Don't know your region, but several retailers have significant stock of solution and granules. Spare yourself the Roccal-D experiment.
More frequent cycles and manual detailing were my answer to the odor.

My manx/coon was very comfortable in the littermaid ultra.
It's a huge box.
The tent is great- but the frame is garbage. I eventually built one out of 1/2 copper pipe instead of plastic, that held up through it being used as a launching point during the nocturnal roundabouts.

I live in San Diego, do you know of any chains that still have the cleaning solution?
