Litterfree screen blank

Postby wa0hshop » Mon Aug 30, 2004 2:19 pm

I'm hoping somebody here can help me...

We were cleaning our Litterfree and had some problems. First, some old clay litter (we're still getting the herd converted to the litterfree) got into the pan and jammed up the big propeller. We pushed the 'pause' button, cleared the jam, unpaused. It jammed again in a few seconds, so we paused and unpaused it a few more times. While this was going on, it seemed like only one side of the water was 'swooshing' (it was on it's fourth cycle), so we added some more water to it. (We had to empty some water out a few minutes before).

Then, upon pressing the pause button the last time, the screen went blank, the motor stopped, and that's it. We unplugged it, plugged it in again. Nothing

So no, when I plug it in nothing comes up on the screen.

Anybody can help?

Thanks so much,
William and Crystal

Now fan not working

Postby wa0hshop » Mon Aug 30, 2004 4:52 pm

Ok, so after wiggling my litterfree control unit for awhile the computer came back on and seems ok now.

But - it immediately started its drying phase. It started getting super hot, but no fan was on to blow the hot air down onto the granules. I paused / started it a few times, but each time no fan. I unplugged it in hopes of not burning something up / out.

Any ideas?

Thanks again,
William and the herd

Can you cycle the streps and get different actions to take place... I believe the command is place the littefree on pause then press the hour key when you un pause it then you shouled be in the next cyle and pressing the hour buton the cycle will step through... see if that gets you some different action..

I appologize I am not near my litterfree so can not verify if that is the correct command but I did find it here on the forum as well..

Actually, the command is to press the hour key and start key simultaneously...

litterfree

Postby karina » Thu Sep 09, 2004 7:11 pm

Hi

Hi

I have tree cats: Angel, Java and Cheese Cake.
The last two of them are seriously allergic to the dust on the litter.
I have tryed just about everything: pine, clay, wheat,...
Right now I am using the cristal pebles.
The cats seem to be doing fine, but there is pebles everywere.
I absolutely hate them!

I am concidering the idea of purcharsing the litterfree box for my cats.
What is your opinion about the litterfree?
I saw their web site, but it says product discontinued.
Can we still buy one? If so were?
Has enyone heard of anything else better?

Thanks kindly
Karina

I like the product a lot, and so do my cats. You may be able to find one on Ebay - but be careful.

They're getting pretty rare, Karina, especially new ones. Though I've found a supplier in The Netherlands who still has a few on stock. They sell for 319 Euro, but they require 220..240 volts and a conversion transformer for the 1500 Watt load is pricey too.

That's actually a (very) good price! I'll start a new thread about new LitterFree boxes.

Thank you all for your help. I got it working again.

The trick with Start + Hour cycled the LitterFree into the next phase (which after drying was -Off-). I took it apart, found the fan had jammed , spun it a few times. It freed right up. Put it back together, and it works just like new again.

Thank you all-

You may want to do some preventative maintenance on that fan - open the machine up again, and expose the fan such that you have access to the center of it. On one side or the other, there will be a sticky label which you can peel back - or perhaps a plastic or metal cap that is removable. Peel back the label or remove the cap, and you will be looking at the fan bearing. Note that the fan in this particular machine may have bearings at the ends rather than the center - in that case - do them both.

Place one or at most 2 drops of light machine oil (3 in 1 oil works well) onto the bearing surface, then replace the cap. If it's a sticky label, stick it back on, but also put some tape over it to prevent leakage.

I do this all the time with compputer fans as part of routine preparation and maintenance, and it *really* extends the fan life and quiets the thing down a bit as well.

I have somthing simular, but luckily I was able to resolve it before taking the unit apart:

When your unit appears to be dead, the most likely cause is the processing unit not being in place properly.

The pan has a 'finger' in the middle of the back that acts as a lock to keep the processing unit in place. The processing unit has a built in safety switch that's pushed by this 'finger', but only when the processing unit is properly positioned. This is a safety measure to protect your drain impellor from taking in granules.

If you have removed the processing unit, or pulled it a bit, or the unit wasn't prositioned properly anyway, this safety switch may have been released.

So if you're placing the unit, but sure to check if the locking 'finger' fits the hole. If placed correctly you should hear a dull plastic click of the locking 'finger', and a softer but sharper click of the units internal safety switch. (it's a micro switch, wich makes a distinct sound)
