Summer Romance - It Lasted A Week!!!

Postby Ailurophile » Wed Aug 18, 2004 9:56 am

 Okay so I bought this thing with high high high hopes and it did fulfill my wishes for the most part. I've been acclimating my cats to it for the past week and they just started TO GET IT yesterday. This thing is a litterbox.

This morning I run a cycle and it the grinder won't turn. I stop it, lift up the unit and there's a huge poopy that pops out. I guess it was too big or something. I put it back and then the thing has making a RACKET  when it sucks water out and during the drying cycle. Beads are even coming out in the toilet bowl!!!

I run another cycle and this time it's ever noisier but working and just to make sure I run another cycle. THIS TIME it fills and won't empty. I unplug the thing and nothing. It then starts up again and won't empty. It churns a couple of times and that's it. No error message. Churns a couple times more and stops!!!

What do I do???!!! :? Someone please please please please please please please please please help!!! It's filled with water and I ran and grabbed the LitterMaid cuz I have to run to work right now and I'm late but I wanted to throw this out to the group.

Are there beads stuck inside the machine?!

When I lifted the unit off all I did was remove the hair that I thought was stopping if from churning and the poop came out entry way.

Damnit I needed wanted this thing so badly to work for me!!!

Suggestions anyone?

Okay here's the deal. I'm not giving up on LitterFree without a fight. I love the concept behind this thing way way way way way too too much. I had a backup mint condition which I hauled out, chucked the broken one. This owe works like a charm. From here on out though I'm going to scoop the poop like with a normal litterbox and just flush. Hardly any of the litter sticks to the poop anyways and just throw in some granules when I need to. They still pee in there and I'll run a manual cycle to give them fresh litter. The whole point is not having to haul 2 ton boxes from thr grocery store (I don't have a car) or cleaning out stuck on box cement litter.

It's only day two but I think I like this system. There's no chance of poop clogging up the blades like with the last one and by scooping the poop there's no chance for all the hair to get gunked up or float around anymore!!!

Has anyone followed this system to extend the life of their LitterFree?

One experience I have had is when taking the unit apart YOU MUST BE very sure to remove all granuals from under the impellers... I have had a few granuals get suckes up in the pump and spit through to the toilet but sounds like you had more than a few... Have you tried any more work on the first unit... First suggestion like in many of the posts is to turn the impeller with a screwdriver or striaght object ( my personal choice is some used chopsticks I had laying around) and make sure it turns smoothly and you do not hear and clattering of small granuals...

I would then try running a cycle without granuals in the unit to clean out /flush clean the system... you can cycle the steps even quicker so you are not sitting there waiting for all the repeats... (found directions on this forum I believe you press pause then by selexcting hour button you can change the cycle step you are on...

That would be my first attempt before determining if the unit should be pulled apart for cleaning/ troubleshooting

Hope you find some use in this steps... they have worked for my main efforts ( 20 months now and still going)
