Going on Vacation

Postby Pebbles » Fri Jul 02, 2004 6:46 pm

I am a new owner of a litter free cat box and we are going on vacation. We live in an area where our electricity goes off every few days and I am worried that the box will go offline.

Everytime we lose electricity the box needs to be manually reset.

I purchased a UPS but that isnt handling the dry cycle wattage.

Anyone have any suggestions?

odd. my box doesnt go offline. It will lose the time, but it will run according to the reset clock and the 'auto' light will blink. But it stills runs. In fact, I think there was a period of 4 months where I didnt bother reseting the thing.

Of course, if you are really worried about it, you can go buy a tiny little strip UPS which will have enough power to keep it running during a small power outage, and will protect you from all the blips for under $50.

Just go to CompUSA or BestBuy and buy the smallest one they have (like a 350 kwH)

Unfortunately, the dry cycle wattage is about 1200...

I never noticed that before. I just assumed that it wouldnt run if the light was blinking. I tested it today by unplugging the box and plugging it back in. The light started blinking, yet the clock started to run again and bingo the cycle started when it was scheduled to.

Thanks for the help. I can now rest easier on vacation!

Yes, but what is the likely hood that the power will go off during the time the unit is supposed to cycle. Any UPS can easily handle the load of an idle Litterfree unit. Make sure to set the unit to cycle during times where the power rarely goes out. Perhaps during the evening if it is due to utility overload.

I assume we are talking about power outages for minutes at a time, not days at a time. If you are having day outages, you need to invest in a generator. Nothing will help your problem.
