Help! Multiple Cats and Clogging Box

Postby Capurrnicus » Wed May 28, 2003 12:50 pm

I have had a LitterFree for about a year and a half, and my cat has adjusted well (he's very finicky). However, this winter we got a new kitten. Because of the location of the LitterFree (in the dog's area) and the kitten's fear of dogs at first, we offered a regular litterbox in addition to the LF for a couple of months. Now we took the regular box away, and the kitten adjusted well. The adult cat has not fully adjusted. Periodically he will go poop next to the box, but he does potty in the box. Now, the box has been clogging periodically, and this seems to have made an annoying situation worse.

I tried to call tech support this morning, and learned what all of you already knew. The company seems to be defunct. I think I can fix the clogging problem, but suggestions on this problem or the behavioral problem are welcome!

I can't imagine going back to the regular litter system. It was a nightmare for the short time we offered it this winter. I am trying to find a way to prolong the life of my box! I sure hope that Pet-Centric was purchased by someone else and they get things moving again soon!

Older cat learned new bad habits?

Postby jamietre » Wed May 28, 2003 1:37 pm

If I understand correctly - the older cat was using Litterfree fine for a while, then you installed a regular litter box temporarily for the new cat, and the older cat stopped using the litterfree and hasn't been able to adjust *back* to the litterfree now that the temporary "old school" litterbox is gone?

I wonder if this is because he was used to having it all to himself. I have been told in the past that you should have one litter box per cat. Now with Litterfree this seems a bit excessive but cats are odd creatures.

If you haven't already why not try increasing the number of daily cleaning cycles? Perhaps the problem is that old cat no longer is interested in pooping where new cat has left his mess. Cleaning more often might solve that problem.

If that doesn't work, perhaps consider getting another litterfree. There are quite a few on ebay now. I'm with you .. no way I'm going back to clay litter, whether or not the company's in business!!

As for the catbox getting clogged... did you find the thread about hair buildup in this board? Might be your problem.

Clogs and Behavior

Yes, I did increase the cycling, which did not seem to help. That did increase the clogging. I will look for the thread about clogging. Had planned to get a second box in a few months anyway, but now with the company gone, I'm debating! I am really at a loss, I'm about ready to contact the parent company in Isreal directly!

Let us know if you reach Isreal

If you call Isreal, let us know what is said.

Have you read the LitterRobot postings? It may be another automated box option if you can't find the solution to your LitterFree problems.

Good luck.
