3mm plastic beads

Postby zetta » Wed May 21, 2003 1:35 pm

I have one cat that loves LitterFree and one that won't use it. From past experience I'm sure it's the size and feel of the pellets. (The same cat wouldn't use the new crystal litters.) Someone proposed that you could use smaller plastic beads, down to 3mm. I'd like to try this. Anybody have any ideas on what I could use for this purpose?

Also, has anyone tried adding extra pellets so the dumps get better coverage?

You should be able to find rounded plastic beads at almost any supplier of plastics in your area. I think you want beads that are non-toxic, and non-absorbant.

I did try adding more beads than were contained in one package, and it jammed the unit. Suggest you not do this!

Still looking for alternative beads

Postby zetta » Thu May 29, 2003 10:05 am

I called a couple plastics suppliers. One recommended FDA approved polyethylene instead of acrylic. The problem is, they sell them by the bead -- 8 cents each! I haven't actually counted how many beads to order, but 500 would be $70!

Anybody have ideas what other products contain beads that might be cheaper -- kids toys, etc?

Try calling Chris at South Bay Plastics in Burbank, California.

Telephone is: (818) 843-3030

Site link with email is: http://www.sobaytoo.com/page6.html

At 8 cents each, 500 beads would actually be $ 40.00.
