Litterfree vs LR dilemma

Postby teenytiny » Thu Mar 25, 2004 9:19 pm

First of all I need to say this forum is awesome, and having recently stumbled across it, I've managed to read enough to allow myself to bid and win a used Litterfree on Ebay. The more I've been reading, however, the more I wonder if the LR would have been a better choice.

I guess my biggest concern with the Litterfree is what happens if it breaks? Where does one get parts? Unless they simply do not break and are that super reliable/rock solid, this would be comforting to know. The other major issue is the ridiculous prices for supplies - I've been seeing auctions selling for $50 and up for a bottle of soap?? What I don't understand is if there are alternative solutions for soap and granules, why are people buying supplies at what I consider to be very high prices, and not using these alternative solutions? The other drawbacks I see are the limited locating options, the odors I've been reading about, and this 'red hot' overheating or motor problem thing?? Other than that it sounds great!!

The LR, on the other hand, seems very solid, and supplies are readily available, to maintain as well as operate. The negative side is that there is still kitty litter! It's expensive too, yet it seems very, very popular from everything I've been reading. This one seems very appealing to me as well.

I'm hoping that someone out there may be able to help me choose... maybe I'm missing something, I'd love to hear what yall have to say!
Thank you!

We started this forum after buying and trying the LF. We bought blindly. I wish we'd had our forum to read, but that's impossible. :)

You're going to get a lot of posts about people's experience with each box. They will most likely prefer the one they use. So, I'm not sure if you'll get any great clarity about your choice - at least not any additional clarity than what you get from ready each section of the forum.

The LitterFree works for several people's animals. Just look to the number of people working out the issue of supplies and every other road block to keeping their LF running.

It did not work for us.

We had high hopes and even built a closet with a water connection and drain area in anticipation of success with the LF. The cats, however, voted with their rears. They said, this isn't litter and you can't fool us. We hate it and we are now going to protest all over your carpet.

We had the same thought you have about the LF being less expensive. That is why we tried it first - that and the promise of no litter.

We tried the LR reluctantly since the LF didn't work out. I really like it. It's a simple concept, the cats accept it, it has improved our quality of life. That's really all we want. We like to have a breather between litter duty. The LR works well and as advertised. Their customer service is very good and a breath of fresh air.

In summary, we really like and the cats use it.

Both are expensive, so I think it's important that this forum exist to inform decisions. People like what they use, so you'll have to think about your animals' psychology. You probably know how flexible your cats are and how well you can train them. The LR has the advantage of not being completely foreign to the animals, because it uses litter.

Good luck and keep posting your experiences. I hope that helped.
