Er 2 - water not draining

Postby cheriepg » Tue Sep 09, 2003 9:04 am

i have 2 litterfree boxes and just recently received new litterfree pellets (finally) and switched them out with the old ones i've been using for some time. now one of the boxes, will not drain the water. the unit just humms and then i get an "er 2" message. we've taken the unit out, checked the bottom for an obstructions and cleaned the filter in the hose and it still will not drain. the only thing i can think of now is that maybe there is a blockage within the hose. i would appreciate any help on the matter.

draining fixed but now water leak

Postby cheriepg » Tue Sep 09, 2003 2:21 pm

we got the draining to work....not sure how. the hose was clear. we shook the litterfree unit in case any granules were stuck inside and made sure the gear/wheel thingy was turning like it should. then got it all back together, ran a cycle and got quite a bit of water on the floor. it doesn't appear as if the water is coming from the hoses but maybe the box. we can't find the source yet. anyone come across this?

Draining issues

Postby ricster » Tue Sep 09, 2003 5:53 pm

Glad shaking helped, that works with my eldest cat sometimes :)

As far as the leakage, was the test run done without granules?
Water only cycles splash more - the granules change the fluid dynamics quite a bit.
Another post here noted a hose failure inside the back of the unit, it's possible the shaking worked for one thing but wrecked another.(hope not)
I had an issue with the leak from the spot where the foam tape is split to allow for the dispenser channel. Strangely, cutting back the tape a 16th of an inch is the answer for that.

the leak

i'm suspecting the leak may be from around the foam tape. i haven't had time to investigate it further though. but, i did place a towel underneath the box to catch what water does leak out for now.

If you are running the unit without all of the granules it WILL throw water out the back and onto the floor. You didn't say that you were runnign without them, but I had similar experiences while repairing a manufacturing defect in a brand new unit and was trying to run test cycles with only a few pellets to alleviate having to deal with manually draining a box full of pellets. My saga is detailed here:

Leaking

Check where the hose connects to the hose-hook: I've had that section not quite seal. (Taking it apart and all the pieces rinsing thoroughly worked -- I think there was grit around the filter.)

Re: WATER NOT DRAINING FROM LITTERFREE.

Postby MKLUTZ22 » Thu Oct 28, 2004 5:47 pm

I BOUGHT MY "LITTERFREE 2 YEARS AGO. I FOUND OUT THE COMPANY DISAPEARED AND FREAKED. I THOUGHT I COULD NO LONGER USE THIS 300 DOLLAR MACHINE. BUT RECENTLY I FOUND OUT YOU COULD BUY LITTERFREE PRODUCTS ONLINE. SO I HOOKED THE MACHINE BACK UP AND THE CYCLE BEGAN. HOWEVER, I REMEMBER THAT BETWEEN CYCLES THE FAN WOULD COME ON. NOW IT DOESN'T AND ONCE IT FILLS UP IT WON'T DRAIN AN IT FLASHES ERROR 2. I TRIED STRAIGHTENING THE HOSE WHERE THE WATER COMES OUT. I CAN HEAR AIR COING THROUGH SO I ASSUME THAT'S OK. I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN BY CHECKING THE FILTER AND WHAT IS IT I NEED TO TAKE APART? I REALLY WANT IT TO WORK. MY CAT (WILLIE)WAS SO MUCH HEALTHIER WITH IT.
PLEASE HELP. TRISH

No problem.

Remove the processing unit from the pan, and turn it upside down. On the bottom you will see a propeller, and an impeller. You can turn the propeller with your hand - the impeller is inside a partial housing. Use a screwdriver to rotate the impeller several times and make sure it turns freely. If there are any pellets jamming it, remove them.

Empty the pan *completely* of pellets, then put the processing unit back on the pan and replace the pellets.

The unit should now work properly - if it does not - there is another problem that we will need to talk about.

Last, when you write messages here, please turn off your CAPS LOCK key - leaving it on is considered shouting, and it's not polite...

Thanks so much michael. i am sorry about the caps lock I didn't know. I'm sorry I did not respond earlier. I'm going to try that this weekend and I'll let you know if it works. My cat Willie will be so happy. Thanks again, Trish :D
