Help - gnat problem!

Postby Tori » Sun Jul 20, 2003 1:56 pm

Hello.... I have a problem, and I was hoping maybe someone here could possibly help me!

I have 2 kittens, and I have an empty spare bedroom that I keep their litter box in. Slight problem since summer began, I've noticed some gnats in my house. Not alot, but I see them here and there, and they're VERY annoying!! Everytime I kill one, another shows up. It's not because the litter box is dirty, because I am a fanatic about keeping it VERY clean. Does anyone know a solution to permanently get rid of these annoying gnats??

I can't stand bugs in my house, it's a nasty problem that I'm hoping I could get some help with. We have used some bug spray around the outside of the house, but it doesn't seem to do anything about the gnats. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!!

Window screens ?? Sticky tape high enough that the cats can't reach it ?

Thanks for your reply. I figured out the source of the problem, and it wasn't the litter box at all, thank god.

We have small children that live in the house next door, and they have so graciously been throwing their half eaten apples and popsicle sticks in our yard, and they were landing right under the window of the same room we keep the litter box, and were somehow getting through the screen... ugh!

At least we found the problem, and thank god it wasn't the litter box attracting them like I had feared, and didn't understand since I keep it so clean! Needless to say, we spoke with their mother and that won't be happening anymore hopefully!

I thought that might be the case...

I was getting around to asking about fruit flies. I had a problem like that once. It nearly drove me crazy. Glad you found the source.

Hey gnats were a worry for me also till last month. After using the Bug Button products I made them go out of my home. Now my home is gnat free. I suggest you the same.

Glad you solved your problem. For others with the same issue and not such an obvious cause/fox, I've found that a small dish with balsamic vinegar and soap will attract them, and when the land in it they'll be unable to escape. Used it plenty of times in my kitchen and near litterbox.
