HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE???

Postby Raymond » Fri Dec 23, 2005 2:52 am

I've been using my brand new litter robot for a week now, I've been very happy with it until tonite. I got home, as I passed by the robot, I could smell something bad...funky bad, first thing came in my mind is to change the bag. So I did, even though it wasn't full yet. After i pulled up the trash bag, I noticed that there was water in the tray, not just a little, I'm talking about a lot here...like a cup!!! I don't understand why there is water inside the tray??? I just don't think it is possible, how could this happen...water inside the tray, are you kidding me??? It looked like water, I was hoping it was just water...so I touched it with my fingers and I smelled it, I almost threw up immediately, it was pee, cat pee!!! BARF!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW THIS HAPPENED???!!! I had the tray in all the time, it's not like I had it open so my cats jumped in and pee'ed in it. Is there something I don't know??? Is there a urinal inside the globe??? like a secret passage??? I'm sooooooo calling them the first thing tomorrow morning, I just don't understand the concept, I don't understand and I don't get it!!! hopefully someone can answer me!!! Thanks!!!

With the older LR model, a clever cat could take a whiz through the drop hole. The wing would divert it down into the tray. This was the most common way pee found its way into the tray without the help of litter. I don't know if the new drop hole covers prevent this completely.

You could have a tear or a leak in the liner. Take a look at the inside of the globe and see if the liner has any tears and is secure all the way around. You could even pour some water into it and see if it starts leaking.

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE???

Thanks Scott. I just bought the robot from their web site, I hope it's the new version!!! Plus the drop holes are located at the 3 o'clock area, I really don't think it's possible. The interest thing about the whole thing was nothing inside the liner is wet!!! I might have to put a camcorder to find out what really going on when I'm not around. Thanks again for your input!!!

There is still probably a leak somewhere in the globe. Sometimes cats whiz straight backwards. If there's a leak in the seam in the back, that will send pee straight down into the tray avoiding the liner completely.

You should probably take a close look at the globe to see if there are any cracks. Another way to check is to take the globe outside, cover the drop holes with duct tape and lightly spray the inside of the globe with a hose. If any water comes out, you know there's a leak somewhere.

I have the same problem and a partial solution.

I have the same problem - though not as frequent as you do. I have a different idea of why it's happening based on the "pee evidence". I think what's happening in my case is that our cat is aiming his backside towards the door hole. Pee is hitting the entrance there, leaking onto the tray and in some case through the foam rubber gasket into the tray itself. One way you can verify this is to take some toilet paper in your hand and squeeze the gasket - bet the toilet paper turns yellow doesn't it? There's almost no way that could happen unless pee is getting there from the outside of the box. And I know kitty isn't spraying from the outside because there's plenty of evidence in the tray to suggest otherwise.

However it is happening, here's how I've recently come up with a partial solution to the problem. First, before I lay down a bag for the litter, I line the front curved area of the tray with toilet paper. Squinch it tight against the sides there. Next, after putting in your main litter bag - (I use cut Wal-Mart bags) cut another bag and lay it across the top of the first bag and then overlap it about an inch or so over the curved front part of the tray and around the edges. When you close the tray the bag should be overlapping on the outside a bit. Now, when kitty misfires, most pee is caught either by the extra bag or the toilet paper underneath - making eventual cleanup of the tray much easier. Fold the "pee misfire bag" over into the main bag, toss the TP inside that, then fold everything up for disposal.

If kitty has saturated your foam rubber gasket already? Soak it good with pee deoderizer, then squeeze it clean with toilet paper. Repeat the spray and let it sit.

Because our kitty sometimes still leaves a pee mess on the lip entrance to the hole of the Bot - I've also cut a piece of Walmart bag to fit the lip. Tape it down on the outside and let some excess drip over into the litter inside the Bot. It will protect kitty from saturating the lip so much with dried pee or thrown wet litter. It's also not a bad idea to put down paper towels or other absorable material to the entrance of the LR.

Hope this helps.
