Litter Robot door

Postby Caneco » Sat Jul 05, 2003 4:52 pm

I am thinking in buying the Litter Robot, however I fear that the lack of door allows my cats to throw a lot of litter through the entrance :?

Does anyone clarify me in this point?

Thanks!

Lack of door

I don't know how much litter is a lot. The "kickin' kitty guards" they put on the LR are important to control litter. You could possible make a door for the unit.

We've put down a little carpet and made barricades that make the cats jump onto the carpet before they leave the closet. This seems to help, a lot.

I would rate the litter tracking to be equivalent to a regular litter box. That could be anywhere from normal to a lot depending on your tolerance. The setup we have just helps keep it in an appropriate place.

Tracking litter

Postby captret » Thu Aug 21, 2003 2:55 pm

:D Get a "Roomba" the robot vac. Does a great job of cleaning up all that tracked litter. The "Litter-Robot" and the "Roomba" will save you so much work that you'll want to get another cat.

yes... I have this problem...

turn around to use the box... (ie with their heads out the front door (which is good))...

but then, when they're done with their business they turn BACK around and proceed to scoop masses and masses of litter out the front door.. ahhhh!!!

havent come up with a solution yet... if you know of one let me know...

My cat is very small and doesn't need much room to get into the globe, therefore I have duct tape over the entire bottom of the entrance. Not only does this prevent him from kicking much litter out, it also solved the problem of him forgetting to turn around and taking a dump on the step.

It is definitely a probem...a substantial one for me. I would love to hear about a solution!

There is no solution.

You can put duct tape over the lower part of the entrance and that will catch a lot of it. You can also put the usual litter carpets and grates in front of the LR to catch whatever does get kicked out.

Since the lower half of the entrance on my globe is covered, I get much less litter flying out of the LR than I did with a regular litter box.

My LR arrives tomorrow, and I'm banking on the Roomba to do the pick-up work. I actually moved the existing litterbox to the intended location for the LR, and as expected litter was kicked up all over this morning. I'll try to report on how well the Roomba did when I get home.

I have tons of hardwood floors so a few years ago I bought a large dust mop. One quick sweep in front of the LR and everything's clean.

I modified mine for more capacity so it is up high on a box where I collect the waste.
So I got cat stairs and had lots of problems with the cat digging half the litter out onto the stairs.

Then I move the stairs a way a bit and put a wastebasket betewen the robot and the stairs.
Now the basket catches lots of what flows beyond the drawer shelf. And the cat has to jump a little across to the stairs, so this keeps her from digging as much out of the globe.
