I agree with you Cas, I think the LF is a great idea, we would have to get plumbing redone in our laundry room to accomodate it. I read the posts that others had a slight or small smell problem with it too. I think the LR is going to work out for us. It seems to be a timing game as to if the LF company is going to get going again, and are they going to make the improvements it's current customers recommend, verses going ahead and purchasing the LR. What's that old saying, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. The most cats I have ever had in the house was 2. Come Sunday it will be 3. So we'll see how it goes. As clean as my wife likes things, I don't think we will have a problem. I just think my work load is going to increase to make sure of it. :D :D :D

Thinking of purchasing Litter Robot

Postby Madily » Wed Jul 16, 2003 4:49 pm

:D I need some advice. From what everyone has written, the Litter Robot (LR) seems to be working great for everyone.

My cat, Madison, is having such bathroom difficulties. (My other cat, Emily, is not.) I now have Litter Free (LF) and am thinking of getting the LR so Madison won't poop in our living room any more.

Is anyone having problems having their cats use the LR? Before I spend another $300+ on yet another litter box, I want some ideas from others how it's working for you.

Has anyone had the same problems with LF (aside from the co. going out of biz...but has since been bought out by another co. and PetCo will shortly be carrying their products...just and FYI)?

Any feedback to either encourage or discourage me to purchase LR would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much in advance for anything you can tell me.

Kari, Madison, and Emily

Troubles with Cats

Postby cas » Wed Jul 16, 2003 9:51 pm

We had a lot of problems getting our cats to use the LF. Shadow, basically, refused. He would pee in it, but he pooped all over the house. It was awful. Harley protest peed - and that was pretty bad, too.

The LR has not given us the same issues.

The problems of cats adjusting to the LitterFree is discussed at length in the early posts under the LF portion of the forum.

Jeff and I concluded from our time with the LF that it was just too different for our cats. They couldn't get used to the pellets: at least that's our best guess. It may have smelled weird to them too. We took a chance on the LR b/c they use normal litter - our feelings were the same as yours when we finally broke down and purchased the LR.

We gambled that the cats would use anything with normal litter, and we were right. The trial period was sufficient for us to decide to keep LR. We basically said to each other, if they don't use it within the first few weeks, then we'll return it.

I think it took one week for them to move over to it. We left their old LBs out and let them get gross. This forced the issue and they all eventually used the LR. Now, they don't know any difference. Its been a lot easier than the LF experiment. (During that time, we resorted to using cameras to see who was doing what - that was our level of desperation. With the LR, we were patient and it worked out.)

My advice would be to read the forum. Problems and successes with the LF are all discussed at length.

Good luck.
