Good golly this forum must not like AOL!!! I've been trying to register for a month and finally resorted to using Internet Explorer and a different email address and finally was able to sign up. It kept saying Invalid Session.

Anyway...

I bought a Litter Robot just this week. Lauren was wonderful and they got it here super quick (I bought a gently used version). It is SO nice to call and get a real live person on the phone immediately to answer my questions every time I call.

So far so good! My kitty that has the biggest litterbox issues (inappropriate urination because she wants a SPOTLESS box) has been using it without fail since day 1. I figured she would be the most difficult about it. But she loves that clean box!

My other kitty I'm not sure about though. I still have the regular litterbox out (just letting it get dirty until she decides the new clean one is better) and I haven't yet caught her using the LR. But she may be using it and I just haven't seen her.

I've had no mechanical problems with it and the box stays SO much cleaner than that "other" mechanical box. In fact the litter is spotlessly clean.

I was very leary about buying it as well due to the cost--but the fact that it has a 30 day money back guarantee (in case my kitty's decided they didn't like it) and an 18 month warranty made me decide to try it. My "other" mechanical box didn't even make it a month without falling apart and their customer service was no help at all. Not to mention the fact that once it just plain died they said there was nothing that could be done to fix it and I just had to toss it. With the LR parts are replaceable so down the road if something goes out at least you don't have to toss the whole thing.

I'll post future updates down the road but so far I'm a happy customer. :)

I'm still chasing problems with mine. Some days it works and other days it doesn't; It's as if it has lost its mind. It is on a perfectly level surface now. I'll try adjusting down the sensitivity tonight, but I don't think that's the problem. Time for an RMA. :?

When it works, it's fantastic. But if the waste tray overflows it can become a muddy mess... I just learned that 4 cats can't go a whole week without dumping the contents of the tray.

Love mine!

Hello All,

I had the LitterFree and my 13-year old girls just wouldn't take to it. I still think that's the most amazing litter box on the market. However, the LitterRobot comes in a very close second. I left a regular box out with the LitterRobot unplugged for about 3 weeks before I got rid of the regular box. Wanted to give the girls pleanty of time to get used to it. I've had not problems with the unit and the girls have taken to it just fine. I use EverClean litter. It's a bit on the pricey side, but I find it has the best odor control.

All the best,

Ruth

So far, everyone seems reasonably satisfied with the robot. I do think it is a bit pricey but even more so with the litter guards being sold separately, which should be included as part of the unit. I'm still listening and thinking it over. Thanks for the input.

Price???

Have you seen the Omega Paws - a possible solution for the price, though not as cool as the LR.

I have considered the Omega Paws but thinking it through, it may not work well for my particular cats. One is a tremendous digger and it is my feeling that he would destroy clumping litter, at least the urine clumps, which would disable the principle it operates on. I have purchased an inexpensive lift-and-sift unit that is under trial at the moment. I use pellets, as in stove pellets, as my choice of litter, and so far, I am attempting to get the bugs out, so to speak, before making a decision here. This does not mean I am no longer interested in the robot. It merely gives me a reprieve until I decide.

Take a look at World's Best Cat Litter (WBCL). I've tried a lot of alternative litters, and I thought they were all crap (sorry) until I saw this one at a cat show. We bought some and it really works. It clumps like crazy, it's biodegradeable, flushable, nontoxic, non-dusty, non-smelly, never gets muddy, and it's chemical free. Our cats really liked it, but it's not easy to find around here. We finally ordered a 58-lb box from http://www.stuffweuse.com/ and I'm graudually phasing it into our litter robot.

Keep in mind that 58 lbs of this stuff is supposed to last as long as 250-400 lbs of clumping clay litter. That means fewer trips to the pet store, and no more broken backs trying to carry 30-lb pails of clay up the stairs.

I apologize if this sounds like a commercial. ;) I really do like the stuff, but obviously some cats will not take to it. It also occasionally has a slightly sweet corn odor that some people may dislike ... though it never smells like urine. I do recommend trying at least one small bag.

One of our friends will be trying this litter with the Omega Paw unit. We'll keep everyone posted.

I looked at the site, is there no way to order the small bag? I could not find it. I only saw the way to order the 58lbs box. I am going to have to see if any of the stores sell it around here.

I am always interested in new, better, innovative ways to scoop the poop. The WBCL sounds interesting enough to check out. I went to a ferret show some years back and they mostly use stove pellets for litter for the ferrets. It is cheap, biogradable and easy to find (as a general rule in my part of the country), although seasonal. It is far superior to clay litter, and I gave up on clumping litter due to the possible intestional impactation in cats. The rest of them seemed to be no better than the stove pellets and more expensive. I will check out the WBCL at Petsmart and such places when I get the opportunity. Like Michael, I'd like to try a small bag or two first.
As to the Omega Paws and how it works with WBCL, I think all of us would benefit from that. Even those that have the LR could use an extra litter box some where, some time, and that could turn out to be an inexpensive solution.

A quick message to let you know you can go to http://www.worldsbestcatlitter.com and find locations where you can buy WBCL for those of us that want to try a small bag before investing.

How's the 58 lb. box on your back? Just curious. :)

I've used the LR for a little over a year now, and I also used WBCL for 9 months or so, but due to bugs, we stopped using it.

The LR is great - I don't have to think about it, though after a week or so I have to remind my finace to throw the waste out and reline the bin (about all he contributes to cat-care besides loving them). If he forgets for two weeks (it's "full" at about a week and a half), a mess ensues when he pulls it out. But typically, it's much like a set it and forget it appliance. My cats took to it immediately (my girl cat, the one who's extremely picky about clean went in it the first day, whereas my boy cat was happy to use the old litter box even after it was more urine clumps than litter - until I removed the manual box then he switched over to LR with no problem). My boy cat tends to forget he needs to use the bathroom until he hears the LR turning (due to my girl, who is much smaller and uses it much more frequently)... he'll jump in there and pee... typically when the screen is on the bottom, therefore peeing on the screen. Once I peeked in after a week or so of not checking on it and it had a good five lumps stuck to the screen. Oops!

Cleaning it is another issue though. It's pretty much the worst chore to look forward to around the house (every 3-4 months for us). That's why we're switching the CatGenie =) But the LR works with clay litter and it works well. The CatGenie just offers other benefits that the LR does not.

As for WBCL - it's corn, essentially, and that's why we had bugs. If you vacuum often (I think our problem was litter tracking and congregating under furniture) it shouldn't be a problem. I never saw bugs IN the LR, but I'm sure they were enjoying the litter that was trapped where only they could reach. With the LR, we used a 35lb bag every two or three months, that includes filling it up.

Hope that helps.
