availability to UK

Postby basilisk » Thu May 29, 2003 5:22 am

Hi
I have been interested in getting an automated kitty litter tray since reading about the littermaid - however that doesnt seem to have very good reviews. Therefore i was interested in getting hold of a litterfree (though i heard there were company problems) or a litter-robot.
I have 4 cats - all of which are not allowed outside the house and they are used to covered in trays. However i live in the UK and cannot find a distributor - anyone know of how i could get hold of one of these trays. And would one tray be okay for 4 cats or would i need 2.

(was thinking of moving to the states after i went looking at a US petstore site and saw the wonderful array of different litter trays - you are lucky if you can find just a plain covered in one in the petstores over here :) )

thanks a lot

LitterRobot Availability

Postby cas » Thu May 29, 2003 9:30 am

Basil,

You should contact the LitterRobot people directly. Their phone number is 248-322-9680. There aren't, as far as I can tell, any distributors of their product. They seem to handle orders directly from their Michigan offices. So, maybe they'll ship you one (extra shipping I'm sure).

I found the LR to be the better auto-catbox solution. If I were overseas, I'd not risk the LitterFree, simply b/c not all cats can handle it. It is, in short, too different from what they naturally want to use. The LR has the advantage of using regular clumping litter - something familiar and safe. If I were taking a chance that's the one I'd try.

Now for the cautions: how big are your cats? If they are over 15lbs you might have a problem w/ the LR. It is spacious for our little 8lb cat, but our 13lb cat has to stick his head out to use it. We may be testing the system with a 15lb cat soon. If you cats are smaller than 13lbs, then go for it.

Then there is the power conversion issue. Again, call the LR people. Since they're a small company and they build these things onsite, maybe they'll put in the proper power supply for you?? I'd ask - since they're small they may be able to provide this sort of added service.

If you do decide to jump the pond, you'll be in good company. There are so many ex-pats in Houston that they have a British section in the major grocery stores. Think Cadbury Fruit and Nut. Mmmm.

Shipping to the UK

Postby Lauren » Mon Jun 02, 2003 12:16 pm

We do sell Litter Robots to the UK; however, shipping is extremely expensive. One Robot costs approximately $300 USD just to ship. I believe the taxes, duties and customs fees run about $70. You also have to buy your own power converter, which is probably not that expensive. We honor our warranty on units sold overseas, but it doesn't include any shipping costs.
