My cat keeps stepping in wet litter

Postby Vmill » Sat Jul 31, 2004 9:46 am

I've had the LR for about 5 months now and for the most part...I have been pretty happy with it.
One thing I have been noticing is my cat keeps getting one of her back paws in the wet litter when she is in there doing her business.
So, one or both of her back paws gets packed with kitty litter.
She never had this problem with the LM.
Kitty litter is Everywhere, especially where she sleeps. It's beginning to gross me out!!!
Anyone else having this problem?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Vmill

How much litter do you have in the bot? I have noticed my cat has more trouble avoiding her stuff when the litter gets low, so I try to keep it a little more than a finger tip from the bottom of the entrance. Which gives her more "footage" inside the bot :)

How do you prevent the extra litter from being thrown out when the box cycles? If I put litter in to more than 2" below the opening it's just wasted (goes into the waste pan) when it cycles. Any ideas?

Maybe my fingers are longer than yours :) I try to keep it right on the verge so I do lose some when I first fill it :(

I do try to keep it pretty full though.

Litter level

We recommend that you keep the litter level about 2" below the cats' entrance. This prevents wasting clean litter and avoids undue stress on the motor. It also makes it more difficult for cats to kick litter out of the box.

That said, I would say whatever works for you!
