Wow. You guys have no luck with your LR.

Ever since the inner rubber liner ripped and the lovely Lauren replaced the globe for me, it has been smooth sailing.

They did a design change on the globe and it changes the way the litter falls through the hole.

It used to have the same problem with smearing. But no more. I used to use Costco litter and it was terrible with clumping and odor control.

So i switched to Tidy Cat Crystal Blend. It works fantastic! No odor at all and clumps perfectly.

Good luck

Curses! I wonder if they would sell me a new globe to get this feature.

On an unrelated topic... how did your liner rip? Would it be something that could accidentally happen to my globe? :D

My liner ripped also, Scott. I am not sure which of the 3 cats was to blame, but their scratching and clawing did it. Saint Lauren sent me a new globe post haste. This was quite a while ago. I have 2 bots now and the most recent one does have a different globe. Without going to go look, I think the holes are located differently. When it is in its regular position, you can look inside thru the holes. I think that is what is different. Also, the rubber liner is reinforced. (Again, this is without my lazy butt going downstairs to verify) If it is different than what I just described I will post back and let you know, once I look at it.

The rubber liner in my year-old LR doesn't appear to have any reinforcement but it's very strong material, like EPDM they use for roofing and pond liners. I can't imagine my cat harming it, especially since he never buries a damn thing he leaves in there (I guess he thinks that's the LR's job :D ).

Scott!! Thank you for the tip on adding clay nonclumping litter!!! My cat also makes HUGE clumps that don't fit. I even made the waste holes bigger and they still end up smearing sometimes.
I will try this as soon as I get some litter!! Yahoo!!

The trick is getting a proper mix of the two litters so the clumps are never larger than ping pong balls. Also the two litter have got to be mixed pretty well otherwise you'll just end up with large clumps buried in non-clumping litter.

OK. Cleaned the Robot and added the mix of litters. I'm so excited to try this!! The Robot would be PERFECT if this works.

Now if only my cat would pee.......

I'll keep you updated.

Well I don't know why, but the nonclumping is not breaking down the huge clumps. I've got a 50-50 mixture in there, but the clumps are just as big as ever.....

Increase the ratio of nonclumping litter. I mean those things have got to stop clumping at some ratio. Make sure that there isn't any moisture collecting in the globe. If there is, that means you need to add more clumping litter. There's a balance somewhere.

Another tip: if stuff is getting stuck to the liner and it isn't coming off when the globe rotates, that means you've added too much nonclumping litter.
