It looks like the robot might be sent back.

Postby jen » Tue Mar 16, 2004 6:07 am

I hate to say this, but we might have to send it back. It woke me up three times one night (but not my husband, the lucky dog) so we set it on an automatic timer to turn off between 10p and 7am. The first night? A cat peed on our bed! She has NEVER done this and the only correlation we have is that she didn't like the box full...or she didn't like the noise of the timer (as my husband just thought).

Add to this that my old cat doesn't like it, and it doesn't bode well for the robot... :(

I think we'll try it one more night...

GREAT NEWS! All three kids use the box today with no problems (well, old man still didn't love it, but he used it)...so it looks like the automatic timer freaked them out. We're going to have tofigure out a fix, though, because I cannot keep getting awaken in the night! :) But the robot stays!

Timer- great idea

Postby tchessie » Thu Mar 18, 2004 12:09 am

HI- Thank you so much for the idea of the timer! We've been unplugging ours at night since we got it 3 weeks ago. What a pain- especially the 2 times we forgot. So, yeah- now I don't have to remember.
I'm not sure why the timer would freak out your cats, unless it is different than mine- mine only makes a click noise when it turns off and then again when it turns on.
I hope it works out for you. In the meantime, thanks for sharing your idea.

So there's a timer on it that you can set so it doesn't go off in the middle of the night. I work till 11pm and usually am up till like 1 or 2 then I wake up around 9 or 10 sometimes a bit later. I was going to unplug mine too at night but I was going to wait and see how bad the noise was and if it woke me up or not. I stay up so late that usualyl when I go to bed my cats go to bed with me. No, there's not a timer ON the actual robot itself. You have to plug it into an automatic timer.

Just go to your local Walmart and get a timer such as one used to turn lights on and off when your gone on vacation or one like you use for Christmas lights.

A real timer would be another "cool feature" for a future LR. If not a clock timer then maybe a button to turn it off for eight hours. And if that's too much trouble, it would be nice to have a button to simply turn it off so you wouldn't have to reach around it to pull out the cord.

Well for the time being I may just unplug mine. But since I work 3-11 and don't get in bed till 1:00 or 2:00 my cats usually go to bed with me and I wake up with them usually if there going to go I am still up. But I'll see how it works out. I just want the darn thing already. Wednesday I should get it but I have to leave for work at 2:00 so If it doesn't come early I can't mess with it till I get home. But I will leave it sitting out so they can get inside of it. Rose

For the past week I've left the LR plugged in during the night and it hasn't woken me up once. I think I've gotten used to the noise.

Unfortunately the cat jumping off the window sill and landing on my head still wakes me up. I don't know if I'll get used to that any time soon.

Ahaha. Scott, my cats are too old (well one is too sick and one is too fat) to go up on widow sills (or even just on my bed) anymore, but I can relate from past experiences when they were still young and athletic. My budgy one can run really fast but ever since moving to this house with all hardwood floors she cannot seem to run as fast either (no traction the carpet could give).

I may keep the robot turned on this weekend and see if it bothers me. I'd rather give my cats nice clean litter every time they want to go. Actually, I feel like unplugging it when I am watching TV since when the cycle begins I have to raise the TV volume. I won't though.

My big cat went in the thing three times just a little while ago only to get a cat treat out from the back but she fits. She went in turned around and jumped out real quick. There old litterbox is so gross that I am hoping soon they both go in the new one. I bought some cat attract litter today also and put some on top of the litter that was in there but that's not what made her go in there it was the cat treat. I will be outof town Fri-Sun so hopefully by the time I get back they will both be using it I hope. But mines not plugged in neither for now. But I don't think it would bother me to much at night neither. Rose

I had to keep the LR plugged in at night because my cat will use it three or four times while I'm sleeping. By morning these small clumps would solidify into one baseball-sized "megaclump" that was too large to fit through the drop holes.

Scott,

Your sentiment exactly... I have been turning the robot off at night but it isn't working for me. First of all, some of the clumps get too big by morning. Second of all (and most importanty), one of the cats quit turning around to pee (because the deep end of the globe is already dirty) and either pees out of the globe or steps on his own pee clump when he gets out of the globe.

I moved the LR to the furthest corner of the apt (2br apt) last night and am planning to keep it plugged in tonight (I tried to leave the robot plugged in when I had the robot closer to my bedroom, but it woke me up at 3AM in the morning when the robot started cycling. Mind you, I sleep with ear plugs since I am very sound sensitive, but the globe is just way too loud. Hopefully, the noise is less now since I moved the robot furthur from my bedroom, plus I am now using half WBCL which is lighter in weight so the robot's motor won't have to work as hard.)

I just recieved my LR today(mighty big box on the porch waiting when I came home!) and I have to agree it is louder than the LM. I have hardwood floors in my whole house so I hear EVERYTHING amplified, especially Loki & Luna playing in the wee hours o' the morn. Luckily, once I'm asleep few things will wake me up. I don't plan on plugging the LR in tonight, but I will in a day or so. Maybe I will change my mind if it wakes me up one night, but right now I'll take the extra noise of the super clean LR over the familiar churning of the dirty LM.*I hate that thing!*
