i use a sharper image ionic breeze with uv light for the lr that is placed in a small closet. no odor whatsoever from day one.

even when we had the lr in our bedroom...i never really noticed a smell when my cats took a dump. it was the sound of the motor that woke me up but, as i am told, it is A LOT quieter than a litter maid (without the alarm going off).

I purchased an Ionic Breeze GP to place next to the LR. These things retail for around $500. Sharper Image makes them and they sell refurbished ones on Ebay that come with the same 5 year waranty as new. I've done a lot of reading on them and heard very good things. I ended up getting mine for $150 plus tax and shipping. Total was around $175. I'm thinking that this would eliminate most people's odor problems. Totally eliminating odor from a cat box is impossible without the help of an air cleaner no matter what the design is. Good luck!

Odour control

I like in the UK (or will again shortly) and currently have a regular box. It doesn't smell (as I clean it daily) but I make sure through having a really cool airfreshener in the closet its in (they have their own walk in bathroom). Its like a blue glass saucer with a round chunky piece of stainless steel that sits in the middle. You fill it with tap water and it just takes smells away. Kind of like the bits of steel you get to wipe over your hands to take away kitchen smells.

Was a pressie from my Mum (worried that my new kittens would make my flat stink) so don't know where it was from but it really is effective. No chemicals, just have to remember to refill the water from time to time.
