LR1 and faulty screen?

Postby hhg2 » Mon Jun 15, 2009 3:37 pm

Hi,

I've had my LR1 for more than five years and it was worked great most of the time and the manufacturer has been quite responsive on a couple of occasions where it wasn't working at its best. Lately I've noticed a lot more of unused litter falling into the collection area. The inside screen appears to be looser than before but I don't see any way to tighten it up.

Has it simply worn out? Have others experienced this? Any solutions?

Thanks!

What's the collection area? All unused litter is supposed to pass through the screen.

Hi,

I guess I wasn't quite clear about the problem. More unused litter is being dumped into the waste collection drawer. It looks like when the LR1 is cycling, not all of the unused litter goes through the screen for holding as it did before and more and more of it gets dumped with the waste. I am using the same type of litter as before and I am not filling it up with more litter than before. It looks like the screen is loose inside the globe, and I don't see any way of tightening it up.

I'm thinking it has worn out, but if you or others have some notions to consider, I am willing to tinker with it.

Thanks!

One potential problem is that clumped litter is collecting in the unused litter storage area (for lack of a technical term) behind the screen and filling it up. I once noticed that my globe was a little top heavy. I whapped the top with a rubber mallet and, clunk, a big chunk of clumped litter came out from behind the screen. Apparently small amounts of clumped litter can build up in there and there's no easy way to remove it other than hitting the globe to knock it loose.

You might also fill the area full of water and let it sit which should make the clumped litter dissolve.
