Rivet/washer assembly tore loose from rubber mat

Postby gadgetguy » Mon Dec 22, 2008 4:37 pm

I started hearing a clanking/rattling sound as one of my Litter Robot II models cycled. I also noticed that litter was piling up outside the left side of the LR. Upon further investigation I noticed that one of the 3 rivet/washer assemblies had torn loose from the bottom rubber mat in the robot leaving a hole for litter to get into. The rivet/washer assembly is trapped between the rubber and the globe wall and that is the sound I am hearing as it rotates. I did a cursory search, but did not see any similar problems reported here, but maybe I missed them. Has anyone else had this problem? Here is a link to a photograph of what happened to mine.

All I can say is that LR customer service is THE BEST!

I have a similar problem. The rubber mat has torn away from the rivet line on the left side. This means clean litter gets dumped each time the LR runs. I called customer service -- the only option they offered was to buy a whole new LR. If only it'd occured one month earlier, then it would have been covered under warranty. What did customer service do for you?

I'm currently using duct tape to cover the hole. This works for a few weeks, but then litter gets caught along the edge of the tape and it begins to come off. If anyone has a better solution (that won't cost me another $350), I'm all ears.

You can now buy replacement parts from litter-robot.com, including a new globe. I had a problem with mine when I first got it and they took care of the problem immediately.

Same thing happened to me: After about 2 years of use, a portion of the rubber mat came loose from the rivet/washer assembly. Since the warranty had expired, I purchased a new dome.
