Automatic Litterbox Central

I've had a Litter Robot since 2004. It's worked well enough. But of course every few months or so, the flashing red light issue comes up because of the Safety line. And the WD-40 solution usually works.

I had originally experienced the shrinking of the nylon line and had to cut the tie that held the line. I was supposed to receive a replacement kit, but never did. Not a big deal, because my pair of Siamese cats aren't dumb enough to get stuck in the unit or even enter it if it is moving.

Now I know the manual says "do not attempt to remove the safety-line." But if somebody were to cut the line and remove it completely, would the Litter Robot stop working?
