New user- help with the drawer?

Postby kayfi » Wed Jul 09, 2008 11:47 am

Hello,

After lurking this site for awhile I decided to give the Litter Robot a go. We've had it for over a week now and no problems. The cat used it right after it was set up and is fascinated with watching it rotate and clean itself.

There have been no problems and I think that it is money well spent... until last night. My cat did something that I've seen posted on here, she peed outside the hole. There was cat pee down the control panel and when i pulled the drawer out to clean the lip under the panel, there was a pool of pee in the drawer. i went to go clean the drawer and ran into a problem.

The grate like thing on the step of the drawer collects litter. the litter also falls from the grate and sandwiches itself between the drawer and carbon filter. Her pee got on the filter and the litter behind it started to clump. Some of the litter in the grated area also got wet and clumped as well.

I see clips to take the grate part off, but I cannot figure out how to do it. I've searched the forum and must be using the worng keywords. Can someone please tell me how to take the drawer apart?

Thanks!

Hi -- Welcome to the forum. I have not tried the filter so don't know what to do with that, where it goes, etc. And, when I first got the LRII, I also tried to get into that "step" area to clean with no luck. I finally decided the holes in the step were a wasted design effort. When my cats scatter litter, holes in the step are NOT going to solve anything... One of the cats will, upon occasion, move a cup of litter to the step in his or her exuberant effort to cover whatever is so smelly in there. Nor do those holes appear to be much of a solution for anything else; PLUS. the area couldn't be cleaned as far as I could tell although it appears that just unsnapping something would give access: Nothing would unsnap for me.

I finally taped some clear plastic over the holes to keep anything from falling through and forgot about them.

Give the good folks who manufacture and sell the LR a call and see what they say... But my best guess, there ain't no way to get into the area you want to get into.

Best wishes...
