Should I buy the Litter Robot?

Postby Beaucat » Wed Apr 23, 2008 8:54 pm

I have three cats, and was using the Littermaid Mega Elite. I got it for a wedding gift a year and half ago, and I've had to replace it twice. Well, it's broken again, and I need to change litterbox brands. I'm fed up with littermaid and their black and decker associates (I posted a good rant about this in the Littermaid forum section) Anyway, I've seen some fantastic reviews on the Litter Robot and am considering buying it. Is it a good buy? Is it functionally better than the Littermaid? Any suggestions?

I've never owned a Littermaid so I can't compare. The LR has been a reliable litter box for a year plus at my house, cycles within 7 minutes of a cat using it... Issues from others are (1) whether the cats will use a closed box; and, (2) use it correctly (i.e., not poop or pee outside the door...); and, (3) its more challenging to clean then some other boxes. Lots of information on the forum about most of the electronic boxes and you'll get some good information by reading away... :)

I have three cats, and went from the littermaid to the robot. Actually, because the littermaid was so unreliable, I went from the worthless LM to hand scooping to the LR. ANd it's been worth every penny. But alot depends on the cat(s). I went through a phase where one cat was having issues, but it was litter related and not Bot related. Goodluck

I bought one, based on the good reviews on the litter robot. I noticed there were a lot more angry customers for the littermaid than the Litter Robot. They have used a closed litter box before, I am not worried about the smell, and cleaning it out can't be as painful as having to scoop out the littemaid because it won't work. Thanks for the help. 8)

Good luck with the new purchase. Let us know how the cats do with it.

I currently have the Liter Robot 1 the very 1st one that was made. My screen somehow got messed up and it wasn't catching the litter right. I was a little over my 18 months and they sent me at no charge a new globe. This was a little different style with a different type of screen. I have had mine for a few years now and love it. To me it's a pain to clean the whole thing but I do it once a month or so. I just empty it out best I can and put it in the bathtub and use the shower head to spray it out good. But here lately I keep finding stuff stuck to the rubber and not have gone down in the drawer and the last time I cleaned it I noticed a tear in the rubber on the bottom and it's got litter all stuck up in there... I am wondering if I can buy just a new globe part or if it's worth me investing in the new one :itter Robot II. Mine still works but so long after it is fresh and clean is when I notice stuff gets stuck to the back or bottom. I don't know if one of my cats is peeing in a way where it's making stuff stick to the rubber when turning or what. I like how the new model has the holes in the step to so the litter drops in there as they leave the step. Is the two the same size as the one? I wonder if my cat made the rip in the rubber with her back claws.. I don't know. I called the company today to see about buying just a new globe but I got a recording and left my number. I did get an e-mail a while back when the two came out with a coupon to save 50 bucks or something. Is there any coupons anywhere? Has anyone here gone from the one to the two and what is your opinion is the two much better? Or will a three be out soon! I know I've had mine for about 3 years or more maybe 4 not sure.

I just got my LR II, after almost four years with v1.0.

Love it, love it, love it.

The new one is even better; bigger drawer, with a ridge along the bottom to distribute the clumps better. Quieter. And I've got a fifteen pound cat using it, though he was reluctant at first. We were ready to teach him to use the toilet. But the constantly clean litter in the 'Bot won him over.

He's an ultra-cautious boy, so I wasn't surprised it took him long after the return date had expired. But he did use it, and the new kitten took to it right away. So now I have three cats using one litter box.

I think it's a marvelous device. Maybe not for everyone, or every cat. But you've got 60 days to figure out if you like it, and you're only gambling the return shipping.

The payoff is incredible. I go days without even thinking about the cat litter. And the house smells like we have no cats. Even when you are standing next to it.

My husband adores it. You should have seen his face four years ago, when I came in from the computer room to announce I'd bought an expensive automatic litter box off the internet. He thought I was insane, but went along with it.

And now he was the first one to say, Let's get the new one.
