Background:
Venus- Very picky about her litterbox. If it is not 'just right', she will use either the tub or bathroom rug. She has also used the bedroom floor. I've done alot of research on kitties with potty issues. I've had medical testing done to rule out any health issues. I was changing litter types (corn, clay, pine pellets, wee pads, even an old bathroom rug), litterboxes (covered, uncovered, small, large, low walls, high walls), and locations (closet, bedroom, bathroom), number of boxes (2, 3, 4). Nothing ever worked for more than a few days. I also used Feliway and catnip with poor results. I finally had it down to a science - low walled litterpan in the bedroom with about two cups of Cat Attract litter. This would have to be dumped and fully cleaned every 2 days and scooped on the alternate day. Alot of work!
Denali - She will use anything I gave her for litter. A very good girl for putting up with all the changes that were done for Venus.
Finding the Robot:
I was thinking about getting an automatic litterbox to help save some of my sanity. I had looked at the Robot and decided it was more than I wanted to spend. Then seen the Cat Genie. Fell in love with it. But no where would work in my house. So I gave up. Months later, after being sick of dealing with a litterbox on a daily basis, I revisited the Litter Robot. My main concern was that Venus, who only liked minimal litter, wouldn't use the Bot because of how much litter you put in it. I figured 1) if she didn't like it maybe Denali would, 2) I could always send it back before the 60 days were up.
The Bot has Arrived:
In May I ordered my first Robot. Venus is a skittish kitty and I thought it would take some time to adjust to it. I done exactly like the directions said to get her acquainted. My goal was only to have Venus using the Bot. After a week or two she was using it like a trooper. Then, it went down hill. Denali was so happy with it, she quit using the regular litterbox and was using the Bot full time. This inturn upset Venus who then went back to using the bathtub. Two months after ordering my first Bot, I ordered my second. I am happy to say that since then, Venus has only went in the tub once. This I attribute to me not emptying the drawer for almost a week. If I empty it every 3-4 days, Venus is happily using the Bot. I was also still using Cat Attract in the bedroom Bot for Venus. I was using the pine pellets for Denali in the regular litterbox but changed to Arm & Hammer clumping after getting her Bot to use. I noticed that Denali Bot was having two times the waste as Venus Bot. Then I caught Venus coming out of Denali Bot. I have since changed to using A & H in both Bots. Saving more money.
Issues:
Other than Denali getting in the door and scooping litter out the door to the floor, I have had only a sensitivity problem. I've caught the Bot with the red blinking light and had to tilt the globe so the litter would go to the back. I figure this is due to Denali shoveling towards the door. A quick turn of the screw sensor and I haven't had problems with the blinking lights. I occasionally find the waste door open when the globe is back in home position. This is because a kitty clump has gotten caught when falling. I would think that in a future design, the waste port(s) would be one big opening instead of two separate ones. This could help the issue of the clumps getting caught.
Life Now:
My family thought I was nuts for paying that much for one Bot, let alone getting a SECOND!!! If I had to do it again I would order the two the first time around. The Bot is more important to me than most other pieces of furniture in my house. I can't imagine having a cat without owning a Bot too. Each kitty should come with its own Bot.
